well the first time i pulled the chevy out was with my rear bumper. I wrapped the recovery strap to the ball and pulled. twisted the bumper all up. then at another spot i tried to tie to the round part thinkin it may be stronger yet, wrong!!! so this mornin i had to pull off the bumper just to open the rear up.
I have to admit the chevy did pull me out once and attempted another time. I ended up using my winch a few times times to get out of the snow and to get the chevy out. surprised the heck out of me pulling that heavy chevy out.

hear is my latest mod. ive been putting it off for some time now but i want it done before the trip.
the compressor mounted and insulated from the body, had some issues with shorting out.

my manifold i made for the auxiliary air, ARB silenoid and pressure switch.

passenger side view of three gallon tank.

view of tank from underneath

auxiliary air out the rear.

and it stowed away.

and some pics of one of the first IFS ever man sep./1985

very sweet fairy. your compressor looks alot like mine with out the base on it. I may have to do something similar lol. your tank mounting is pretty neat. i would almost be afraid of the outlet being turned downward though. I may have to come up with something like that.
Your rig is pretty nice. thats the first time i have seen pics of it

thanks man, i think the outlet will be ok. i have it that way so i can drain the water out of the system. my compressor did have base but i took it off to fit it in that spot, you will get to see it live in may.

Accidents suck

Called them up today they said they have taken pictures and done their estimates to repair the vehicle. Super sure it's a totaled car now they said about $8,500 to repair. They say they are waiting on the police report... They said it can take up to 2 weeks to get the police report. Might have to see what I can do about that. I have some copy from the police that just says information exchange. But it does have a report # field filled in. So maybe they did a report. Dunno what it would say.

Moved the truck from the tow yard to a friends body shop. Probably have them check out the frame and see what deals part wise we can get going for the axel and stuff. Put the transfer case into neutral and started her up and shifted it through the gears on the transmission and it all went in fine so I think the tranny is good to go. Still debating on what to do. Might throw some of the leftover money into fixing up my old bmw. I think the old tacoma has high hopes of making it back as work/offroad truck. Though the passenger door wont open. Maybe chop the passenger door and weld it closed. I don't think it will be opening again without a new cab and door.

That was their estimate to repair which would make it a total since it is more than the value of the truck. I think I blue book for around $4,500... so probably around that area.

when my '87 22ret xcab 4wd was totaled 4yrs ago insurance gave me $6500, so you may get a good chunk of change off yours. i was surprised to see that it was totaled but i needed the money and didn't buy it back. mine was involved in a 'dumb broad' incident. i don't know how it happened, but a neighbor w/a ford escort parked next to me and when she left, she decided to crank her wheel toward my truck and pull forward instead of reverse. as she was driving up the sidewalk, she first hit my tire hard enough to bend steering components, jacked my pass fender, ripped off my front bumper, front clip, and both radiators all before being stopped by the apartment on the other side of the sidewalk.

if your mechanic buddy finds your rig driveable you could go that route, but might cost you more $ to fix it than to buy another truck and transfer things over, mostly in downtime i'd guess. i've been seeing a lot of rigs for sale in past few months prolly due to hard times. good time to get a nice rig.

just to throw it out there because it's freakin' sweet and if i had the time and $ i'd buy it in a heartbeat, there is a bj40 for sale on craigslist http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/1127119666.html but it's not finished.

well I got a semi new CB today after the repairman told me what and how much was wrong with my old CB. went to a CB shop by the truck stop and got all the parts for installing it into the runner as well. dug out some of my old CB toys as well but i am not sure about hooking them up as it may bleed over into my sound system.

idk a thing about cb's, but are the handheld ones any good? i'm pretty sure they won't have the range of a full-on cb setup, but good for a few miles and for wheeling trips maybe?

do cb's really interfere with stereo systems?

if you have a big setup they can if not installed correct for it. it is a whole different set of rules and can be costly with jacketed wiring and all. hand helds are getting better but you pay for it. i would recomend some of the higher end cobras. also you can buy mag mount antennas and hook some hand held cbs to the antena with an adaptor
