cb indash mounting ?

Hey,

I have 97 4runner that's undergoing some mods right now (pics later).

Has anyone mounted a cb indash. I'm considering either the din just below the cd player and above the ash tray OR the area below the ash tray. Like I said, I'm wondering if anyone has done this and how. What mount did you use and how does it work out.

I know I can buy one of the remotely located cobras (i'll get one if this is too difficult), but I'm getting a friends cb and 5' firestick for free.

Thanks.

one other thing, can someone tell me or take a pic of the spare tire lowering crank. I need to what the "key" looks like ( i.e. open square, flattened solid tab, etc.) that fits into the slot to lower the tire.

Thanks again.

search for it. one is called the "ashtray mod". theyve all been covered extensively, with the exception of possible below the ashtray but still easy with a dremel nonetheless. its really up to you, all are easy and doable

I checked out teh cb ashtray mod, but unfortunately mine is too big to fit there. But it's still helpful.

We use VHF here. My Yaesu VHF is almost the same size as a standard car stereo. I mounted it below the stereo on the plastic tray thingy. I think 4runners also have that tray. I miss the tray but nothng beats the OEM look of the radio and stereo on the dash.

I saw the ashtray mod here a while ago and it rocks IMO.

Good luck!

Here is what one looks like, and as stated before, there are many other people on here that have done the same thing:

I have a Radio Shack SWR meter inline with my CB, sitting in my ashtray.

Here is a second gen with CB in ashtray.

I used the DIN under stereo for switches (lights, etc) instead. I really like the ashtray placement, even if you are limited to what model CB's you choose that will fit. That said, I have nothing but good things to say about the features and range of this unit. Definetly gets the job done.

awesome. thanks guys.

i'm gonna take apart the dash and see if i can find a stereo mounting bracket that'll work and go for the DIN below the cd player. If it works, i'll post some pics.

I just had a Cobra 18 WX ST II and a Kenwood radio installed in place of the factory double DIN radio in my 2000 4Runner. It fits really well.
I will try to get some pics this week.
The antenna I chose was a K40 whip that detaches with a 1/4 twist.
I have always used the Wilson Firesticks before this so I am interested to see how this one works.
The guys who did the work are BC Electronics in Levittown, PA. 215 547 7600. I dropped it off this AM and it was done by noon.
