What is broken on YOUR Toyota

So you don't think it could be the thermostat stuck closed, I hear also that there is a design flaw with the 85-95 22re that involves the thermostat requiring a hole being drilled through it. I haven't checked for circulation yet either.

I broke my 4WD
I could use some advice on this. I have a 1980 4WD pickup which died 10 years ago with 385K miles on it. Since I couldn't bare to part with it, I decided to give it new life by way of a Mercedes OM617 conversion. Because I am not a mechanic, it took me 10 years and lots of help to get it done. But it's done, and it works, and I LOVE it! the most recent problem: I was driving on snow and ice covered pavement, going about 30-40mph. Several cars went off the road around me, so I decided to engage the 4WD for the first time since the rebuild. I locked the hubs, put it in 4HI, and drove off. It felt very good for about 5 minutes, and then there was a horrible sound and the front wheels locked up. I barely managed to pull off the road, unlocked the hubs, put it back in 2HI. It drives fine in 2. I put a solid axle from a low mileage 1985 4-Runner and 17" wheels on the truck when we did the engine swap. I'm starting to wonder about the increased wheel size and what that may have done to my transfer case. I saw smoke around the front differential at the time of the jam-up, so I'm wondering about that, too. And also about that birfield joint. Any advice will be hugely appreciated! Thank you!!

I don't know much about that oil. How does the oil smell? Burnt? But if it meets the FSM requirements then your probably good to go. I was just thinking that was an easy thing to check. Have you crawled under it and looked for bright metal as in fresh breakage? How do your wheel bearings look? Just throwing ideas out there.

Sometimes when I turn my lights on, my drivers side rear running light doesn't come on, so I have to get out and hit the lens for it to light up, similar to the way Fonzie hits the jukebox to play music on Happy Days.

Bought the truck 1 month ago. Changed most of the front end, Front and rear brakes. Transmission service leading to probably rebuild or swap. Also need to change timing belt, water pump, idler pulleys, cam seals, crankshaft seal, oil pumpoil pan screen, remove egr and pair, New exhaust. Check valve clearence, 4 inch lift, bigger tires, new front bumper with winch, repair or replace torsion bars, rear bumper. fix high beam switch, Check out ac, repair clear seal on paint. Should be ready then.
