The only thing that i have yet to fix on my 4Runner, is the rear window,

the switch inside the cabin, will take the window down and up with a few clicks, but when i put the key in the back of the door, the key will take it down but wont bring it back up.

I think what I might do is rig up a switch that is underneath the car that will take the window up and down.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point.

cheers

Don't hook your stereo here

Creating a list of moused together stuff to unmouse on my new (to me) 1991 P/U 4X4 San Diego vehicle originally so it's solid and straight structurally..
Don't hook your stereo into your ignition mains...

Oh man, where to begin....
284k miles on a 94 V6 Extra Cab, I've put 30k of those miles on in the last year and a half.

Rust all over
Muffler not muffling due to large holes throughout
Oil leaks from pan, not sure if I'll ever fix it or not
Ticking from engine, thought it was EGR leak from where I broke it, but isn't
Timing belt due for a change and everything with it
Need three new shocks( I have them they're just a pain)
Need new leaf springs in back or ZUK mod
My dog destroyed my drivers seat, so new seat would be nice
Front left blinker is just a bulb hanging out
Front right blinker has never worked, weird wiring issue
Numerous plugs unplugged under engine but everything works(for some reason)
TPS or something is bad so the idle jumps all over. Especially nerve wracking when it's -40 outside and it starts at like 2000 rpm.

Things I've fixed or done:
Installed oil pan heater and block heater (I'm in Fairbanks, AK)
Replaced Fuel Pressure Damper (It sucks)
Replaced Starter for a bad bendix
Replaced Alternator for a bad overvoltage regulator
Replaced one shock (all mine are toast)
Replaced Clutch (when bought)

That's all I've done. Cost $1000 when I bought it with 253K miles and bad clutch. I get good mileage, (22mpg when carrying a 500lb sled in the back in 4wd) and it sounds cool because the muffler is shot.

Murphy Dome outside of Fairbanks. I had a bad habit of getting stuck out there at midnight this summer.

Tundra is a lot of fun to drive on though.

MudMachine88. its most likely relays located behind the storage compartment in the back of 2nd gens ,driver side. mine did just what your describing . found a writeup by Matt16 ,and followed his advice was an easy repair.and cost 10 dollars for upgraded relays. that was 6 years ago still working great.

Tested trailer lights and stop circuit is not working. Last used about 10 years ago so not surprised. Time to break out the DMM.

Interior light only works when the door is open, second gear synchronizer is shot, carb needs rebuilt (16.5mpg) muffler is rotted, cat is clogged, leaf springs are flat, shocks look like the original ones, bed is rusting out, steering stabilizer may or may not even be working, and I

Can't complain about anything. It is the most reliable truck ever built.

I just bought a 91 4runner and there's a steering fluid leak coming from where the steering column enters the pump. I have heard theres means of buying a pump replacement seal or kit...? Any body have any recommendations?

Oh and both rear and mid interior lights.
rear passenger side window.
switch that controls adjusting side mirrors.

1992 4Runner Oil Leaks

I can't start a new thread so I am asking anyone where are the oil "seals" in a 1992 4Runner V6. My mechanic has told me that he has replaced the "seals" twice and this thing is leaking like a sieve again almost two quarts a week. I'm really sick of this 4Runner but I can't afford to get anything new. I need to know what are these oil "seals" that they are talking about? Any help is appreciated greatly. Thanks.

What or where are the oil seals that my mechanic is talking about? This 92 4Runner is leaking a lot and this has happened many times before. Thanks for any help.

There are many possible points of oil leakage. As far as I know, there are no psychics here.

Why don't you ask your 'mechanic' to show you what exactly he changed on your truck.

If you had this work done at a legitimate business, then you should have an itemised invoice that outlines exactly what work was done.

the most common??

As above, no psychics, but a common guess would be valve guides? A substantial job to do repeatedly, especially considering "Labor Costs".
If so, try a new head during a proper valve job??

Hey guys n gals, my first post here. New member. On my 2nd Toyota truck project and needs some good advice. So I bought a 90 pickup 4x4 regular cab. Body in great shape, I'm the third owner now. It was garage kept for 15 of its 25 yrs. minimal rust for Iowa trucks for its age. I got it for $900!!! Runs strong, 4x4 works fine, no air ,no power steering, no frills no thrills. Just basic truck. Has a loud ticking under valve cover. PO had mechanic look into it and found #3 exhaust rocker arm isn't getting oil and thinks oil journals are gummed up. I bought anyway for project truck and a weekend driver/winter get around. I took off the valve cover and found most of that true! But also found #3 exhaust cam lobe worn down pretty bad. So.... Do I replace cam, rocker inserts? Not to mention the timing chain is done.... Odometer cable broke at 152xxx, and PO thinks it's at about 200,000. So chain and possibly cover is a must along with tensioner etc. engine runs smooth, no smoke, no lag, still has pep. I have about $1000 to work with and don't want to get into the bottom end just yet. I will in a year or so. Keep in mind it's not a daily driver so I have other means. I just want to get it going for a year or so to shake down any other issues it may have. Brake lines etc. just want some advice! Thanks guys n gals!!

Oil Seals

Thanks for the useless answers. Well, I am a psychic and I see that you don't know either but you act like you do which probably makes you feel like you're tough. I shouldn't expect too much really because we all bought these useless Toyotas so that proves none of us has much sense.

Ok, theres a front main oil seal, a rear main oil seal, 4 intake valve stem oil seals, 4 exhaust valve oil seals, four oil rings, an oil filter gasket, an oil pressure sender joint, an oil pan gasket, a valve cover gasket, a timing chain cover gasket, and who knows how many other places that oil might be lost or consumed on your engine.

How in the world you imagine that anyone could tell you, over the internet, where your oil is going, when you supply no photos, or even a vague description of what part of the truck may be wet with oil, or whether there is no aparrent leak at all, and the oil just disappears????

You have to help people to help you.

You have to help yourself to enable us to help you. First I would start by giving this truck a good bath with a pressure washer to remove any grime & mud so you can actually see where it is leaking.

Then take pictures of where you think its leaking and post them. Also have a talk with the mechanic about what seals he is replacing that they fail so often. I think you are getting a wall job or two from your mechanic. My daughter got a lot of wall jobs on her Nissan from dealers, so I know first hand about that scam.
