stripped rear differential oil fill plug!!!!!
i have a 1992 toyota truck 4x4. I recently had a new rear end installed but my mechanic was to cheap to put a new pinion seal in it. so now about once every 2months i ahve to fill the rear diif with new oil. it is about that time but when i went to do so the head of the fill nut stripped. How do I remove the stripped plug to put in a new one?

Put in a new pinion seal:

And for the fill plug, weld a nut onto the head of the plug and then use that to remove it. Or you may be able to use a chisel on the edge of the head to break it loose. And only use a 6 point socket on that plug.

Take it back to the mechanic and make him put a pinion seal in.....as for the diff plug, you can do what 4Crawler said. If you don't have access to a welder, the chisel method works well, or you vice grips as a last resort.

The hammer and chisel method works well in a pinch. If you have access to a welder, that method is the fastest.
Once you get it off, change it with an allen head plug and you wont have that problem anymore.
