lockers???
I've heard that some 4runners have an e-locker, I have a 96 4cyl, can I put one in my 4runner (front & rear?) and what year/style can I pull them from? Are they near the quality and ability of the after market ones? Thanks for any info!

Uhm. Search?
The E-Lockers only came in the limited v6, I think.
And there are many different brands/types of lockers to look in to for either your front diff or rear. It all depends on what you want.

For the most part all lockers will give you the same end result. The only real difference is full time or selectable.
ie.
arb/electric - selectable = best
Lunchbox = #2 unlocks sometimes
Full spool = 100% locked all the time/hard on tires
Hope this helps

I'm actually planning a trip with some friends to try out some trails in cleveland national forest off the 74 but I want to get some sliders on soon along with some front and rear bumpers before we go. Since i'll be gone on vacation for a week i'm planning on dropping it off at an offroad fab shop for those things. As for lockers, I talked to pro gear in san diego and they suggested a detroit locker...i'm thinking an e-locker so i don't have to have any air on board but i'm not for sure on that yet, still learning. any thoughts?

Bumpers and sliders are a great investment, but you don't need them for that trail. From my understanding, that trail is mostly dirt roads that you could take a RAV4 on. I'd still love to see pics though.
I'm not sure if you knew, but having a shop fab and install bumpers and sliders is going to cost a pretty penny. You could potentially save a lot of money by purchasing from one of our vendors. The bumpers are usually bolt-on for the most part, with minimal welding required. The sliders vary on the amount of welding required; generally the cheaper they are, the more welding required. I'm sure you could find someone on here who will be willing to help you with the welds in exchange for beer and pizza.
The e-locker is also going to be pretty expensive. Many of, if not most, people running an automatic locker would love to have an e-locker, but can't because of funds. If money isn't an issue, then rock that e-locker!

there appears to be numerous trails up there and i want the armor for later on when i get into more difficult trails. i have check with numerous sites on bumpers and sliders they get pretty pricey for the 3rd gens so i'm gonna run some pics by a shop i know and get a quote, hopefully it works out and he gives me a good deal. money is always an issue but i think that i'm confused, is the toyota factory locker an 'e-locker' or an automatic locker (whatever that is)?

Elocker is not an auto locker.
An auto locker is something like a lockright or Aussie locker (they dont make aussies for our rear diff as far as I know)
They are always locked, Even on the street, Downsides are generally bad road manners that are easily accustomed to..

yup... the lock-right clicks around corners, and occasionally u get a clunk from it unloading, if you drive on snow or ice... you will fishtail a lot easier in 2wd, (I have notice no adverse affects in 4x4).... but it's 100% worth it to be able to go in 2wd where you used to need 4x4, IMHO.
