A bunch of questions...
#1
Hey everybody!
I have a few questions to throw out here today...
1. Im looking at some Lunchbox lockers... Are these still one of the best bang for your buck lockers out there? The reason I am asking is because the FAQ about them was written in 2004
2. Also, I'm tryin to figure out which tires to get. Im lookin at some 33" Boggers, but have heard some ups and downs about them... I don't have much money to be swapping tires every couple thousand miles, so I want something that will last me quite some time, and wont cost a fortune. I will be doing some crawling and a little mudding too.
3. Lift.... I was considering a suspension lift, but then I heard about all of the things that will need to be adjusted and yaddah yaddah... Is there really much to worry about? Or should I stick with a body lift?
I think thats all for now!
Any input will be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

1. Best bang is detroit locker. IMHO lunchbox lockers are junk wastes of time. Its kinda like buying lens tape to fix a broken taillight until you can afford a new one. Just get a good one the first time.
2. If you plan on driving this on the street.....stay away from anything Interco makes. Goodyear MTR's are a good all around tire. Boggers will last you maybe 15-20k miles. Btw, any 33" tire will cost a fortune. 33" boggers are about $225 each, before mounting. And most places wont balance them.
3. Depending on what you are doing, either can be a viable solution. If you do a body lift, don't go over 2". I dont really suggest over 1", but since most will argue otherwise, you should be fine to 2"

Yeah i certainly wouldnt go anywhere over a 1" body lift. as for tires, if you want something that will devour mud and rocks for a pretty cheap price find some Wildcat EXT's. They are extremely aggressive and can be aired down very well without beadlocks. i cant speak much for their street manners as they are very loud but i ran a set to the wire on my taco through some pretty gnarly stuff and they handled great.

Lunchbox are fine. Its all personal preference. I personally don't recomend anything except ARB's or Elockers, but since you are short on cash, I doubt those are what you're looking for.
Detroits are strong, but many people run lunchboxs with no breaks, and no problems. Since you are only going to a 33, you'll be fine.
If you are set on interco, I recomend the Trxus MT's. Great tire, not too pricey, and will serve your wheeling needs. You would need new rims, but the size to get is a 255/85R16. Perfect.

You're thinking of the ARB, which is an air-locker. They are made in Australia though!
Interco's are always loud on the street. Follow NaeSLaS's rule of truck noise:
"Before making truck louder, must first make stereo louder."
Stay away from the Thornbirds. Absolute crap.

Aussies and lockrights are lunchbox lockers, and they are both essentially the same thing, with respect to how they operate.

heres a site I found.... Anybody heard of it?
http://www.wildyoats.com/toyota_4x4_building_101.htm
It has ALOT of very helpful info. Sorry if it has already been posted.
Also, here is a lift I am thinking of getting, does it look any good? Any other suggestions? Should I get the rear blocks?or the rear leafs?

Would help to know what year truck you have and what your intended use for the truck is, type of terrain you plan to take it on, etc.
The wildyoats site has a lot of good information. Here is another one:

Assuming you have an '85 or earlier truck, that lift kit is OK, not ideal, though. Looks like it only includes blocks for the rear springs. Not the best setup:

Would these skyjacker Nitro 8000 shocks be good for an 84/85 toyota pickup with a 5 inch lift?

Toyota trucks first had airbags in the 95.5 Tacoma and 96 4Runner.
2 Wheel ABS was started in 1989 in the trucks (SUPER rare) and 1990 in the 4Runners
4 wheel ABS was started in 1994 in the Trucks and 4Runners
