Brake/ Axle swap

Brake/ Axle swap
I previously owned an 87' 4Runner 22re IFS 5 spd, wrecked that and ended up buying an 85' 4Runner 22re SFA 5 spd. Now I found out the hard way that my brakes and tires wouldnt fit. Well I found online that you can swap axles (87' axles are 3" longer) to fit 37" tires. Now they didn't tell you how so would I need to do anything to the front to fit 37"s? And would I have to swap the entire thing, third member, housing, brakes and all, or individual components? Last question, also saw a slotted rotor for the 84'-85' Front brakes and they said to use the 86'-89' IFS Caliper. Well I checked and it doesn't fit the SFA knuckle. What do I need to do to make this upgrade work? I've also thought about converting the rear brakes so [I]should[I] I just swap entire rears or is there some way to swap entire rear brake sys.? If anybody has any knowlege or experience with this please let me know. Thanks.

You would have to swap at least the housing, you could use your thirdmember for sure. Not so sure about the brakes.
How much lift do you have? To fit 37's at a reasonable height, you will have to cut considerably in the front or push the axle forward.
If you are running 37's because you ACTUALLY wheel trails that NEED 37's and you're interested in more braking power, there's really only one way to go:

Lets start with the rear axle:
The only thing you can use from your current setup is the 3rd member. The 86+ rear axle is 3" wider, and the brakes are 1" bigger. If you have a locker or some sort of upgraded diff, just swap your diff into the 86+ rear axle and you will be good.
Front axle:
There are many threads here regarding brake upgrades. The most common one is to use FJ60 rotors, and V6 IFS calipers. Not sure why you said the 86-95 calipers wont fit, since the all have the exact same mounting distance between the bolt holes. You do have to trim or remove the orginal backing plate, and you will need to install the FJ rotors first so the calipers dont over extend themselves.

What do the axles and brakes have to do with fitting wheels and tires?
I don't get what your asking? the 85 brakes are smaller all around. If you want to fit 37's you're gonna have to lift the truck, via all new springs (the right way to do it) or a cheap lift that uses blocks and shackles, probably a body lift to.
As far as the brakes go, upgrade the front to ifs calipers and vented rotors and leave the rear alone, its fine.
you dont need to swap any axle thirds or housings. If you want a wider stance, put an 86+ rear axle in the back and 1.5" wheel spacers up front.

Swapping
I got a 4" lift and just to make it clear,im trying to swap the 87' stuff to the
85'. And as for the front brakes, I saw that the bolt pattern matched up but if you do have to do some trimming thats probably why it seemed to me that it wouldn't fit. Very pissed at the time. Well if thats the only thing thats holding me back from swapping fronts and nothing has to be done to or with the knuckle...... awesome.thanks
