It is completely fine to do this. They simply freewheel and do not engage the shaft.

I do the same in very bad traffic, backing up to a trailer or up my driveway, in drive thrus and anywhere I'd like to let the clutch out but not go fast.
so with that said the manual hubs in free position the truck thinkis it's in 4x4 but it's actually not? i might be interested in the manual hub swap. looks better anyways.

They also ever so slightly improves mileage. A swap will cut down on daily driving CV and front diff gear wear as well.

I have an 1989 Isuzu Trooper in my pile and see it has Asian hubs on it, they look to be the same externally, anybody know if they are the same? I'm going to pull them off and compare but any info just might keep me from wasting my time and maybe a source overlooked.

Hey all, I have a quick question. I am rebuilding a pair of hubs I got, and during the cleaning process, I noticed that there is a small chunk of one of the dials missing right at the edge. This hub was a LOT dirtier on the inside than the other and I wonder if this break was allowing dirt in past the o-ring. What do y'all think? Should I replace the dial?

If you are so inclined, you might try some of metal putty (epoxy) and fill in the broken area (clean the surfaces well to ensure no grease or oil) and then sand/file the cured putty to shape and then repaint. Not really a structural area there. Or get a used one and keep that one for a spare.

Thanks for the quick reply! I think I am inclined to use it as a spare since my sculpting skills aren't my strong point. LOL I have to buy some gaskets and o-rings anyway, so I'll just pick up a used, but whole one.

I'm a noob, sorry if this is the wrong thread for the question. My truck currently has 15x12.5 aftermarket rims, and I'd like to go back to originals. I prefer the look for a daily driver. I'm thinking about purchasing a set of late 80's model Toyota 4x4 4Runner/Truck rims. The style with the 4 double spokes. I'm assuming they're compatible with manual locking hubs, but I've never dealt with manual hubs before. If they're compatible, do I just remove the center/hub cap and slide them over the front hubs to put the wheel on? Or are there mods that have to be done?

I think they shouldn't be an issue.

if its a factory rim, and from the sounds of it you are referring to the aluminum rim with double spokes in an X shape it will work no problem. just make sure you have the right lug nuts

No, the Asians on the trooper won't work on the Toyota. The internals are different.

Those are exactly the style rims I'm referring to. Thanks! It's the "acorn and shank" style lug nuts, right?

I am going to put Aisins on my 95 T100 and cannot for the life of me find the torque specs for the nuts on the cone washers.
Am I just blind? I have the Haynes manual and have searched the interwebz, to no avail.
Help anyone???
(Edit - I think I just found it. Figures that as soon as I posted I would stumble across it. I found 23 ft lbs. Can anyone verify this is correct?)

Should be 230lbs using an air wrench and your best guess. Follow up with a blow torch to really make sure hose nuts are
On there.

I just got this 1994 3.0 sr5/v6 4x4
My question is this:
When engaged in 4x4, i 'feel' the t-case engage, the driveshaft locks in, the light comes on, the vacuum is proper at the front axle (goes from driver side suction to passgr side suction on the diaphragm at the axle), but the front tires don't lock in.
Am I having a hub issue?
Can I just convert from the auto hubs to manual, and be fine?
If so, OK to pick up the manual hubs (Aisin) at the boneyard, or go with warn or other...
Not trying to sink a ton of money, just need the dang 4x4 to work!
Thanks for any help!

I don't believe that just swapping hubs will help, you will have to do an ADD delete. It sounds like your ADD system is whats messing up. As far as I know, the hub swap by itself will not get rid of the ADD system.
