So could I for right now before switching out to manual hubs, fix the vacuum lines, find the wire for the 4wd indicator sensor bridge the wires (If I can find) and test the 4wd system.

I do believe your right, to make the switch to the manual hubs and ditch the ADD system.

Thank you for your help.

As long as you can engage the transfer case and you still have a drive shaft going up front it should work. Other than the lame add system anyway.

Hey CDN-SMOKEJUMPER thank you all the info/help.

Just want to make the 4wd system even works, the t-case feels like it is going in and out of the ranges smoothly, there is a front driveline from the t-case to the front diff.

Now if I could just find the indicator sensor wire cut it and bridge it.

Once again thank you for the info/help.

Glad I could be a bit of help. That area is all I know about really. My whole front end is still ripped apart waiting for me to get it back together when I get home from the mine.

Hey I am sure this has been asked before but I plan on switching to manual before winter rolls around and one thing has been on my mind, it may be a stupid question but bear with me. . . One thing I like to do is play in the mud and I like trying it in 2WD first. If I get stuck then I put it in 4WD and wiggle my way out. It is nice not having to get out of the truck just to do that especially when it comes to deep mud or even a big puddle so is it okay to lock my hubs before doing this? Locking them and keeping it in 2 for now? And then just putting it in 4 and I get unstuck without getting out of the truck? Or is it a completely stupid and bad idea and I should be ashamed for even wondering about it?

Nope, perfectly fine to do so. Think about the trucks that have the ADD system, their CV's constantly turn with the wheels as hubs themselves are "locked" all the time.

I leave my hubs locked whenever I know I am going to be going in and out of 4 wheel a lot. Its just nice to be able to disconnect them when I'm not going to be using it and keep the wear and tear of daily driving off those parts.

Sweet thanks!! My buddy always says that it's a terrible idea to keep them locked while in 2WD, I think that is his excuse so he doesn't have to go in the mud. .

Alright, this is my first truck that has had manual locking hubs. So this is a total noob question. The exterior of the truck has the manual hubs, but the interior has the 4x4 gear lever. Did the 1990 pickup come with the manual hub, or was it installed by previous owner? The truck is IFS.

Likely stock. The hubs lock and unlock the front hubs from the CV drive axles front differential. The 4x4 lever engages and disengages the front drive portion of the transfer case. So hubs unlocked = 2WD no matter what you have the 4x4 lever set to. Hubs locked and you have 2WD in 2H and 4WD in 4H and 4L. Your Owner's Manual will have some basic information on that.

To tell for sure if it is stock and not an add on is to go under and look for the axle tube. If it is not easy to see a straight tube about a foot long from the diff to your driver side CV you have an automatic differential disconnect. I had one but deleted it. If you look at my build thread you can see what I am talking about.

I added manual hubs and got rid of that crap vacuume system.

I don't have any problems and have manual hubs on my 93 dlx.

I am curious what years came with ADD or if it came with a specific trim or as an options.

Does anyone know this off the top of their head?

I'm about to run a TC gen 2 caddy kit on my 94 runner. I'm keeping my 4wd by swapping in t100 front axles, does anyone know if I can keep the add or if I have to convert to manual hubs?

Not an either/or situation. You can keep the ADD system and run manual hubs if you want. Locked manual hubs are the same as the ADD drive flanges, so if you lock the hubs, the ADD system works like normal. Unlock the hubs and you have no front wheel drive and save wear and tear on the front axle components. Or you can keep the ADD drive flanges.

Does ANYONE sell parts or a rebuild kit for these? I have factory 87 hubs and my spring/lock tab ring whatever thingy is bad on one side. I hate to send the whole set in for a rebuild over that but I cannot find parts anywhere!!!

Buy used hubs for spare parts.

No one sells those parts.
