22RE Exhaust considerations,...

Given that the upgrade exhaust modification on the 22RE motor to 2.25" has been discussed at nauseum on the site (at least from my searches,),...

Please tell me:

What is the OD of the stock pipe that connects from the manifold collector to the S-pipe? What is the OD of the S-pipe to cat? To me it looks smaller in diameter.

According to the 4X4 Forum/Ted's Engbldr description... it seems to call for a stock exhaust manifold (header) and pipe all the way to the cat. Then 2.00" pipe from cat to muffler,.... then,.... 2.25" from muffler out.

Is this correct to see the benefits of decent directional exhaust flow and better output gains ffrom the motor?

Thanks for the quick reply. What do you mean by swedge?,... so the diameter of the stock pipe is smaller going into the cat converter 2.25", right?,...you have 2.25" the rest of the way back after the cat.

Was thinking about purchasing the LCE exhaust kit, not sure though as I am concerned about the amount of rust I have on the flanges. That kit is $400 plus shipping!

Look at the Doug Thorley after all Toyota designed the factory manifold and exhaust in a tri-y.

muddpig- I am considering just replacing from cat to the back,... LCE has a complete package including the muffler,...no cat comes with the kit and no header either. Was planning on staying with the stock manifold.

i did, and it was like a new truck. better acceleration and better fuel mileage (+2mpg) i got a magnaflow 49 state. i had to get a small (4.5") extension made, but it bolts right up. oh, and you'll need new gaskets

You Might want to shop around for your system, LCE is usually very proud of their stuff. A new cat might make your truck feel like a new truck.
