Tranny Jump?

Hey,
so i drove a while today, about 200 miles to an amusement park with some friends. On the way up and back we were crusing at around 80 and the rpms were about 3100. All of a sudden, the car jumps out of overdrive. Heat goes on, windows go down and car gets thrown to neutral. Goes back to norm with in seconds. Any idea why this would happen? We arent on a hill, everything was normal cruising. We were cruising at 75-80 for quite a while....
Thanks
-Mike

Sounds possessed to me! I hope somebody figures it out for you. Not I!

Yeah, that's a little odd. I think I'd be looking for a priest, or a new truck.

wait...haha, now i understand what you mean by possessed!
I turned the heat on to cool the engine and i rolled the windows down and i threw it in neutral. haha
I was just wondering about why the rpm's would go up like it was coming out of overdrive randomly!?!

So was the engine temp up? If so it could trigger the tranny to go out of overdrive. The temp could go up due to an air bubble in the system. when was your last flush?

My guess is that you had a change in wind or road resistance. Something that just caused it to downshift. Did your engine show it was running hot? You really wont cool the tranny by turning the heat on....Its cooler is at the bottom of the radiator and get the 'coolest' coolant to it....

If nothing changed enviornmentally its possible you have a temp sensor going out and the tranny thought it was either too hot or too cold, if you didnt get a tranny hot light, probally too cold.....
