I recently developed a kip on my #1 cylinder. 86 model with 200,000 miles.
I have eliminated the dist cap, plug, and plug wire as the problem.

I checked the compression. That cylinder has 125#, and the others are in that range with the highest being 140#. I know the compression is low but Im trying to hold off on attempting a rebuild right now.

SO my next step would be the fuel injector. Correct? I noticed that plug is dry.

It looks like quite a job to get the injectors off but Im thinking I will have them reworked since Im sure thats never been done. ANy tips on getting to them?

You've been around long enough, so I assume you know how to find the manual.

Remember that the "crush washers" sealing the fuel system are one-time-use; you'll need to replace them. They are a dealer-only item, but they are cheaper than dirt. Figure out the sizes you need, and get two extra of each size.

Im actually not very swift on mechanicing. But Im learning.I have been doing a lot of reading using searches. I would love to attempt a rebuild some day but Im too busy with other things right now.

I have tried every link I could find posted in searches and none of them take me to a good link to get the FSM

The 85-87 injector connector is a poor design and I have had them to fail. Try gently pulling and pushing on the connector while idling and see if it misses. I have seen (#1)it most damaged as it is the most easily bumped while doing maintaince.

Is the injector firing? https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...t-22re-270857/ I get replacement connectors from http://www.connectorsfast.com/ if that is the case.

Terry, using a screwdriver it sounds like it's firing. I mean, it sounds pretty similar to the others. I moved it around some, wiggled the connector, and no change..

I know the injectors need to be reworked, but I really am hoping this is what the problem could be. Not sure what else to check.

I really need to learn and do a rebuild of the whole engine, but I just dont have the time right now. My dad died a year ago, and he was a mechanic. He handled all the complicated stuff and helped me troubleshoot. Now, my family is looking to me for answers when something goes wrong. Im ready to jump in and learn it! Time is just an issue right now.
