Did you do a compression test? Just curious

Next on my list. My compression tester is still in MD & I'm in the process of moving my stuff to VA, so I'll get it sometime in the next week or two.

The spark plug was mildly fouled with black crud, which leads me to believe the injector is firing but a valve isn't working properly. Not sure just yet, though. I lost a nut when I was rebuilding the engine 58,000 miles ago; perhaps it finally made it's way down to a valve~

Reading this doesn't give me reassurance, I just spent a few grand in an engine rebuild. I used a multi-layered steel head gasket which the guy I purchased it from said was head gasket fail proof. Time will tell.

Hope your problem is a "simple" fix.

To SMOKEJUMPER, I moved to VA & got a job within the first two weeks~ it doesn't start until April 15th, though.

I'll need another job to make ends meet, but after 14 months without a job, it's good to at least have an iron in the fire~ woo hoo!!

Maybe I'll get lucky with the engine, too, and it will only be a plug wire or spark plug....

Congrats on the job! Sometimes you just have to make a move. Well done.

Good luck with your repairs, maybe with work in a few months you could do an engine swap so we can all watch.

I'm leaning toward the injector isn't firing right now. Will know more in the next couple of weeks.

Holy crow man!

I gave up on the damned 3vze when mine decided to blow the HG externally and clear the radiator in 3 miles of driving or less! I also discovered that I can get a used GM 4.8l v8 for about 350-500 bux. Not only does that engine have zero issues spinning to 6500 rpm, it has right at 300hp and even more tq. A valve spring change and 7200 rpm is no issue either. And they LOVE boost too. And if it blows up? Who cares! 350 bux and get another one!

I'm going to swap trannies over as well. A new manual valve bodied th350 from jegs with a warrenty is 650! So about 1100 for engine and transmission! Then I have a few more tricks up my sleeve when the swap starts too!

Either way I hope this is something simple and easy for ya after everything you've been through.

UPDATE:

Well, it was a valve issue. Doesn't really matter anymore as the entire entire started smoking like a freight train & making BAD noises back in April 2014...died within 5 miles. It's been parked since then waiting for $$$ & a donor engine. Due to cost issues, I've about determined I'm going to swap a 3.4 in. Anyone in the greater Virginia area have one they'll part with cheap??
