Good grief........apparently so! I've only got about 8k on my 22re rebuild after 2yrs. But, then I don't drive everyday. Everything going well for you? PM, if you like, to answer that, eh.

Just read the whole thing. I hope I don't run into a fraction of your fun with my 3.0.

Yes, but I learned a TON!!
;-)

I've since replaced the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and distributor. The distributor & fuel pump made the most difference;lots more power under 2000 rpm.

I want to replace the VAFM, but at a DISCOUNTED price of over $600, that won't be happening any time soon....

Are you still happy with the 3.0 after all that? If you could get all your money back would you have swapped an engine in hindsight?

In hindsight, I would seriously consider a 3.4. I looked REALLY hard at a 1UZ swap but it was just too darned expensive & complicated.

OK, took a road trip this past weekend (3 hours each way) to western MD & when I got back on Sunday, I noticed my idle was off. The engine was "rocking" like one cylinder wasn't hitting. I also noticed the same thing when accelerating from @ 1100 rpm in a higher gear. Otherwise, it's run good.

I checked the radiator this morning before starting her & I was down about a pint or so. The level has been rock solid for over a year now.

I fear the head gasket is on the one out again. I hope it's something else, but I pretty much know what it is at this point. I was running hard up pretty good sized mountains (70-80 mph uphill) on this trip, so I 'm sure the pressure of that is what did it. It's strange, because I've ragged the hell out of this engine since I got it going again without one issue.

Crap.

This couldn't come at a worse time. I've been unemployed for over a year now & barely scraping by.

Sorry to hear that dude.

Have you thought about moving to find work?

I've moved cross country twice to find work. Go where the oil or mines are. It takes a bit to get your foot in the door but once you do you'll not be sorry.

Turns out it's the #3 cylinder; when I unplug the spark plug wire to it, no change in idle. I'm going to pull the plug & see if it's something simple like a cracked insulator (hoping). If that's not it, I'll get my compression tester out & see what's going on. No more loss of coolant, so I'm hoping the shortage last time was just a one-off overflow or something.

To SMOKEJUMPER, I moved to VA & got a job within the first two weeks~ it doesn't start until April 15th, though.

I'll need another job to make ends meet, but after 14 months without a job, it's good to at least have an iron in the fire~ woo hoo!!

Maybe I'll get lucky with the engine, too, and it will only be a plug wire or spark plug....

I have good spark to that plug, so the problem is either a valve or injector. It's my only transportation right now, so will have to wait....
