Does anyone have any idea where to get rear wiper refills? I've been searching for about a month now and can't find anything.
It seems as if auto parts stores don't even stock 'refills' anymore. Is there an adapter you can get to update it?

 

if i were you, i would just take them off, the rear wipers dont do anything.

walmart has replacement blades and so should just about any auto supply shop. just check the flip book listing section for truck/suv.

I bought a refill for a 3rd gen 4runner and had to cut an inch or so off it. Works like a champ and was like three bucks.

 

or go up to the counter and they will tell you the size. Just make sure you are looking at the screen with them so they dont tell you the wrong length. Its happened so many times.

 

Uh, if you turn it on it does. The back of the truck gets covered with mud, dust and water if you drive in the rain or off paved road.

 

I have a 95 4skinner and I just replaced mine with a cheapo Pylon brand from WalMart--- I got the 14".
you will need to use the angle adaptor that is supplied with it. You will also have to ditch the stob that rides up the parking ramp.

 

On my 95: Buy a 14" wiper arm at WalMart for about $4. If you can find a 14" blade somewhere, you can use that. Cut the factory blade out of the rear wiper arm(it's made so it can't be removed). Take the 14" blade out of the cheapo arm and slide it in from the bottom of the rear arm. When you push it in, you'll find the final "loop" on the rear arm is too small for the replacement blade to fit through. Use needle nose pliers and widen the opening so you can push the refill blade in and lock it.
If you remove the rear wiper locking/holding mechanism, you may find that you can't operate the rear window.

 

not sure about your 4runner, but mine has a vertical back window, so watter just falls off it, and i have not managed to get mud on my rear windshield.

 

I just orderd a new rear wiper blade/bracket/rubber for $14 CDN from the Toyota Dealership yesterday.
may be a little pricey, but everything replace on my truck I try to get at LEAST OEM quality

 

On my '85, I just picked up a blade refill of the approximate length of the stock blade and slid it into the wiper arm. Worked fine.

 

My rear wiper blade is hand cranked now...

the ones made for beamers have an adaptor to be used, also if you go to a yota dealer, they may have one, that is where I got my last one.

On my runner ive got an air dam thing on the back by the 3rd brake light, isnt that to keep dust and such off the back end? I havent noticed since its been raining here for a while now, and i dont go on dirt roads that much.

 

Thanks for all the ideas fellas. I went the 'buy the whole blade and take the rubber out of it' route like GorgeRunner suggested. Only time will tell if it works. It's too cold here to get the back window wet. The high for today was like 5 or so.

 

OK, here's what I did.

By the way, those who say you just go to walmart or autopartswarehouse (you get no results when searching rear wiper for Toyota 4runners) must not be paying attention, or else have a different wiper. There are none out there like this one, that I could find.

The arm is not replaceable with standard arms out there even with adapters that I can see. It is held by two screws along with an opposing knob that stabilizes the arm. Mine works from the top. So you unscrew it and off comes the arm with a bracket - no unsnapping possible that I can see.

So, pretty much as GorgeRunner said: I bought a 14in replacement arm, and worked it a bit. The blade that was in it did not want to be removed (I should say rubber blade and metal blade supports). So i had to cut it apart to remove it. The replacement I bought, however, was removeable - with a bit of effort. There is one narrow blade holder where the metal blade supports protrude to prevent it from sliding. Squeeze the protrusions of metal together and it will slide off (Kind of tricky to do). Once off, it will slide back onto the original blade holder - just remember to put those protrusions on the 'narrow' blade holder (slide the blade towards this narrow holder end through all the wider holders first). It slides then snaps right on.
