Random Spliced in Vacuum Line?

Hey all, I am cleaning up this 22RE out of a 1985 prior to swapping it into my 1987. I found what looks like a random spliced in vacuum line on one of the power steering vacuum lines.

Anyone have a guess as to what it was for? Any reason to keep it? I'm planning on just replacing the entire vacuum line without the splice. The spliced in line terminates in a cut tube, about 3 ft long, so maybe it ran to something near the firewall? The 1985 motor had cruise control, and my 1987 does not, but I don't think the cruise control has anything to do with vacuum.

That splice is not factory, so you can safely get rid of it.

My guess is that someone used that for a vacuum gauge, but I don't really know.

You should have a schematic under your hood

Sadly, that sticker is long since gone under my hood, and this is on the motor I'm swapping in, which comes from a different year. I'm pretty confident the splice was not there stock, but just wanted to see if it was an aftermarket piece I would want to keep or something.

Cruise control has everything to do with vacuum; that's what drives the throttle actuator. (Some 4runners have an electric actuator, but I think it came out in '95.)

As others have pointed out, the Tee is clearly not factory (not even factory cruise), so it's anyone's guess what's going on there. I doubt there would be any good reason to keep it (another point of possible failure). And you could always add it back in later with a real vacuum Tee if you needed it.

Makes sense to me, I'll pull it out and put a new line in there. (And then I'll start troubleshooting how the cruise control actually hooks up, haha.)

Thanks all!

Do you have a factory cruise control system?

I have the cruise control system that looks like it has an ECU connector and a place to attach a throttle cable? (maybe?) that is supposed to bolt up near the brake booster, and then I got the steering column and dash panel that have the cruise control switch and actuator on them. Haven't looked much more into it than that. I got the engine and the cruise control parts from the same guy, but I am not sure that they came out of the same truck, he parts a lot of trucks out apparently.

When I get home on Monday I can take some pictures of what I actually have, but it looks like the same piece as shown in the pic from https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...e-body-297332/

That is a factory unit, so you should be good to go!
