So you're telling me that if I put one black and one white piece of metal in a dark oven that the black piece is going to be warmer? Dark colors absorb more heat because they reflect less radiant light energy. Color won't affect the heat gathered through conduction or convection. I'll have to agree about the paint acting as an insulator.

 

hmmm you're right on the science on that one my bad, but as for which would be hotter it would depend on the heat source in an easy bake oven the black one would get hotter sooner lol...
still I think a nice shiney intake looks nicer then a dirty old black one when you pop the hood, and lets face it engine bay bling bling is part of what this mod is all about lol.

Haha. A completely dark, evenly preheated oven where the test pieces are equally spaced and positioned from identical, not light producing, heat sources.

I have to agree about the bling factor. I don't mind a satin black paint but I think I've seen some ISRs with shiny stainless looking tubes and they look really good. If I ever get around to it that's the look I'll go for.

Look what I did with my new years eve



1- 45* 3" elbow $8.45 or so at lowes
2- 2" to 3" rubber coupler $4.50 or so each at home depo.
1- 3/8 barb 1/4 in thread fitting $1.50ish
1- O-ring to use as a gasket for the fitting
1- breather $9.99 at auto part store. because i bought two of the fittings but lost one and rather than go back to home depo i just walked across the street and bought the breather.

Prolly not the best mod i have ever done.. its pretty awesome but i find myself getting on it alot more to hear it. im sure its alot more stress on the 275,000mile engine

Heres mine. I just went to autozone and got the Spectre intake tube. I got it for like $10 too, I love havin friends i know work at places like this, haha.

Go look around on the 95.5 to 2004 area, im sure someone has somethign liek this.

 

as far as i know, the aftermarket is aplenty with short ram and cold air intakes for the 3.4...
they can be had pretty cheaply too... just do a google search...

I'm in the process of making an ISR pipe of my own, but I was wondering, wouldn't making it out of plastic keep the air a lot cooler coming through? Or is it such a short distance that it doesn't matter? I feel like exhaust pipe would get pretty hot underhood, no?
