Bump for my question above, what are all of you exhaust pipe ISR mod people doing to keep the intake from getting super hot?

Any thoughts/opinions on whether or not the ISR mod would be "worth it" if I were to keep the stock airbox? Just bought a drop-in for it and would like to keep it.

That's the whole (ok, maybe not whole but most) point of the ISR mod: retaining the protection from crud by using the stock aribox, and removing the obstructions in the intake tube itself.

Got it. Just saw a lot of cone filters and didn't know if that was considered the bottleneck that people were trying to get rid of...

if your worried about heat some use header wrap. I just don't worry about it, the engine bay temp is what it is. If those using pvc don't have a problem, I don't think the temps get that high (unless it's hours idling in summer grid-lock). I've heated up pvc to bend it by sticking it in a tail pipe (us electricians will try anything) and it doesn't take too long. The exhaust gets a lot hotter than the engine bay IMO.

here's mine i made from an old civic intake. its not pretty but it works

Before
[IMG][/IMG]
I cut it to size and left a little of the curve to it. and left the two hose connections.
[IMG][/IMG]
put it in place, and connected the hoses.

fits a little tight, but works good.

love to hear this baby suck air as it compliments my magnaflow exhaust.

Toyota OEM filters are very good. I'm using a NAPA one right now, nothing bad to report, but I think I'm gonna go back to Toyota for the next one.

You have a VAFM, not a MAF. Two completly different air metering devices. Your Vafm should not be affected, but your TPS can be.

p.s stock is true cold air intake. Those cone filters reduce horsepower by sucking in hot engine bay air.

I would get an Amsoil Ea Cone filter. The best on the market for the application.

Heater duct from 79-83 Pickup, filter was snagged at the junkyard, AFM adapter is 2.5" exhaust tubing and 1/8" plate, and I had the wires and loom.

That's typically how most people here seem to setup their ISR mod, because it's a matter of simply removing the intake silencer assembly and not the airbox as well.

From: Yotatech, because Pirate is too expensive. NorCal.
Corragated tube. Great for smooth airflow.
