ummm no a 86+ and most 85's 22r and 22re block are 100% the same. You are thinking of the diffeence between a pre 85 block and post 85 22r/22re block.

1985 22R with weber carb
31 inch all terrains
stock height, no gearing
I recalibrated the carb the other day and on a 6 hour round trip (80% hwy) and got 22 mpg with camping gear in the back.

Ya, thats what I like about the weber carbs, easy to calibrate. What jet sizes are you using?

I posted earlier - with my weber carb 32/36 I got 22.5 on a road trip last weekend. Stock gears, 31's, 22R. I know a little bit about these carbs from online research. I calibrated it based on directions from the web and I'm stoked to get that gas mileage with 31's. I plan on 32 or 33 inch tires and gearing it with 4.88's...I'm sure I'll keep similar gas mileage, but have a better, more capable rig.

UPDATE:

'93 3.0 X-cab, with a K&N CAI and AEM filter, 5spd, 80% highway @ 60mph and shifting on the street @ 1,750rpm got me to 17.7mpg.

Just removed my 2.5" Magnaflow exhaust from the cat-back, and installed all new 2.5" piping with an Aero Turbine AT-2525 muffler. Sounds much better, and I will post my mileage increase at the next fill-up.

Another UPDATE:

So, My freeway mileage has increased significantly. Previous 60mph mileage was a true 16mpg. Now I'm @ 20mpg at 65mph. The only thing I have changed was my muffler. I'm now using an Aero Turbine 2525 instead of a Magnaflow 10416.

Mods to the truck are in my sig, but I've also turned the MVAF cog 2 clicks lean before the muffler change and saw a 1.5 mpg increase on the street and 2 mpg on the highway before the muffler change.

Don't forget guys, that half of you have ZERO aerodynamics due to modifying or removing your front bumpers, or have aftermarket tube bumpers. I mean, our trucks ARE shaped like bricks already, but this bumper effect is probably hurting our gas mileage even more.

Just a thought.

Awesome info, thanks!

Can you elaborate on "all new piping" in your original post?

How's it sound? I found this, but think his Jeep has more sound deadening than my 4Runner does.

Doesn't sound that good with the camera at the back of the truck, but sounds reasonable inside?

Whatever is on mine now is annoying on a trip from SoCal to Moab and makes talking to the person next to you difficult on short trips. It has to go.

And a valid thought at that. I have the stock bumper, plus 70#'s of custom bumper construction. But agreed, our rigs aren't the most aerodynamic things on the road these days.
