Crap! All these 3.0's getting 15-17....why is mine running well but getting 12 with 31 tires and 4.10 gears???

I just wish my 86 22re hadn't been such a piece of pooh. Especially after my 3.0 water pump started leaking yesterday. ARGH!!!

17 mpg. that is with 33's lockers, 6 inch lift, reg cab 93 with 2.7 taco motor. 5.29's for gears. i just put my 35's back on and they are lighter then my 33's. same amount of travel every week, not much highway and always driven hard. i will post again with the difference.

so far i've almost DOUBLED my milage!

just bought a 90 regular cab 4x4 22re 5 speed, 33 12.50 15 mud terrains, 164,XXX miles, no knocks, doesn't burn any oil, but check engine light was on and it had NO power, gave him HALF of what he was asking for it and drove it away. it would barely pull 60 on the freeway driving it home, and only got 11.6 mpg. turns out the previous owner cut out the cat and put a glass pack followed by a 4 foot piece of flex pipe (fantastic!), when he did this he decided to not only leave the O2 sensor out but go ahead and cut off the wires completely (perfect!) took me a wile to figure out which wire was what but i welded in a fitting and installed a used O2 sensor my buddy had, that eliminated 3 of the 5 trouble codes, it still had a bad miss, sputtered, extremely poor acceleration, no power, and backfired every time it was revved (kind of embarrasing driving through town) i also found some bad wires and connections (apparently he really liked black tape and wire nuts) and a couple minor vacuum leaks, and a bad thermostat (stuck open) finally checked the timing, it was at 0 degrees! (which was actually 5 BTDC without jumping the TE1 and E1 terminalsso i figire that is what he had done) i jumped the terminals and set it to 5. no more backfire, runs smooth, at least twice the power, that took care of 4 of the 5 trouble codes, all that was left was: knock sensor signal, code 52. i replace the frayed wire with one from the wrecking yard, no more check engine light!!! the second tank i was up to 19.6 (about 25% city driving, 25% highway, and 50% puttin around in the hills) i have the whole works to do a tune up, plugs wires cap rotor fuel filter and fuel system treatment etc, and i also just ordered a full length pace setter header, flowmaster super 44 2.25" 2 chamber muffler ( i'm doing 2.25" all the way back), k&n cold air intake, and a white lightning performance chip, i'm doing all of that this weekend. i'll keep ya'all posted with what kind of milage i get out of the next tank! next on the list is gears, 4.88 or possible 5.29's depends on how much power the mods make

Mileage Chart

Found a good website providing mileage, it seems pretty accurate.
http://www.mpgomatic.com/2007/11/17/...r-gas-mileage/

My 86 manual 22re got about 13 miles to the gallon when it was running on two cyclinders for six months. Stock everything.

87 4runner w/ 22re (158k mi) after an engine swap- 12mpg. granted this was driving partially in the mountains and in extremely high front winds, sometimes doing 55 in 3rd for an extended period of time but it got so bad that 3rd hardly even wanted to do 55. i must have a problem somewhere.

i love getting v8 gas mileage with lawnmower power but hey, its a 22re thing.

Talking Mileage

'88 1/2 ton std bed, 22R, 4 spd, stock everything. Summer-blend gas I can squeeze almost 30mpg at 65 (highway). Winter-blend it drops to about 26-27mpg.
