Ok so about three weeks ago my timing chain ate through the timing chain cover on my 1987 22r. So i ordered new timing chain kit and decided replace the head gasket while i had it apart.

But after pulling the head and timing cover i decided to pull the engine and do a complete rebuild. After tearing everything apart i noticed cylinder 4 is pitted. So wanted to know should i hone it or have it bored

And please keep in mind im still in high school so money is tight, but any help is much appreciated.

how bad is the pitting? id just bore it 40 over, new rings and pistons and call it good

 

Get the bores measured.
Don't bore it any more than absolutely necessary to clean it up.
Just honing might be enough if the pitting is minimal.

 

If you were close to me I would give you a block.

You never want to remove more metal then needed .

It is not like it will give you lots more horse power in these engines.

 

ya it's just a little i can barley get my nails in it. All the other cylinders are like glass im just tryin to spend as little as possible. And one more question how can i tell if the bearings are shot. They don't look worn but the engine has almost 250k.

If you don`t see scoring on the bearings .

Just remember Plastic gauge needs to be done on oil free surfaces any oil at all will distort the readings .

 

K just honed the cylinder should i do the other three? Ya still gotta clean the crank, can pressure wash it?

Ya gotta hone all the cylinders, otherwise the new piston rings won't seat.
