Need help with EZ Locker!!!!!

We are currently trying to install a Detroit EZ-Locker in my rear end and we had it in there once and then when i went around the block to test drive it the rear end was just spinning and all you could hear was the ez locker trying to engage the side gears but it couldnt. I would give it gas and i wouldnt go anywhere. Do the side gears need to be shimmed closer to the locker clutches? All we did was remove the spider gears install new clutches and springs etc and put it back together but it did not work. The instruction say that when you put the cross thing that used to contain the spider gears back over the top of the first clutch, the clutch should spring up and down on top of it. Mine does not "spring" up and down. Any immediate help is urgently needed! Thanks.

If I'm reading correctly, that spring is what engages it. If your spring is not engaging the clutch, then there's the problem.

the second pic is blurry but the holes that are perfect circles hae the dowel pins in them and the ovals have the spring with the cap facing OUT. Lemme know if anything here looks wrong.

Did you swap the thrust washers over from the factory sidegears?

oops...you're right....the V6 case sidegears get re-used. I'm not sure what the cause is.

Yes it should spring back up. You need to look at yours closer....something about the pins and springs are not in the right order.

We put the first clutch on top of the side gear connected to the ring gear, then put the dowel pin down the hole that is a perfect circle and the spring down the oval hole with the cap facing up towards the installer. Then we put the metal ring inside the first clutch, next came the cross. After that we did the exact thing to the second clutch, aligned the dowel pins of the second one with the endcaps and springs of the first. When you try to push on it and make it "spring" it doesnt go anywhere b/c it is hung up on the cross.

that's not good.....

ok...here's the same part # locker you have....

all the stuff that comes with it...

the pins go in the round holes and the springs go in the oval ones...

when they go together it looks like this ....less the cross....and it is "springy....when I push down it springs back up.

i took pictures to show tthe height difference between the spring and the dowel

also here is a picture similar to the one you posted.

my dowel pins are 5/8" long and the springs are 1/2"including the cap.
I noticed in your pics the spring and cap protrude above the edge whereas mine fall below the edge

Here's my dowel....5/8" just like yours

Here's my spring with the cap on....exactly .700" length
