Loose Water Pump Bolts - Replacing Fan Clutch
95 4Runner V6 4WD:
In the process of replacing the fan clutch, I removed the bolts. I reinstalled bolts without fan clutch to hold the pulley's in place (so they do not drop off). Now two of the 4 bolts com loose on the water pump end when the nut is backed off.
How can I tighten the bolts. I don't want to remove the pulley's if possible because of all the extra work involved. Any ideas.
Out here in the desert and car now inop - unable to get to teh parts dealrer easily. Dealing with a 70yo senior here who needs to expend the least energy- joking.
I wanted to replace the power steering pump but the hose connector of VERY tight. Not like working on my original 53 Chevy.

My Error
Ok the water ump is someplace else, but I am not replacing the water pump. The issue is the Threaded Studs or Bolts are loose.
If I mount the Fan Clutch as is, two of the bolts will me loose. When I removed or backed-off the nuts, the bolts came loose wherever they insert on the back-end.
This also means I am unable to remove the nut because the bolt back out.

When you remove the fan clutch the studs are then too long to get tight, so you need to find some washers to put under the nut to fill the gap. Or you could get some bolts and replace the studs with bolts (the right length of course).

Replacing it. Local mechanic repaired air conditioner and said fan clutch needed to be replaced ASAP and it would effect overall AC cooling. It overheated two days ago and leaked water at the top seam under steam pressure. Rather than risk it I decided to replace the radiator and fan clutch. Figured I would deal with a minor power steering pump leak at the same time but having problems removing it.So I may let the PS pump alone, install the fan clutch and radiator and call it a project.
I will need to have some major work done soon anyhow - burnt value, needs a value job. On limited income so I am at the mercy of limited income these days. Otherwise would have mechanic do it all now.

If your old fan clutch is an OEM one, don't throw it out. Normally they only need to be rebuilt (actually just refilled) which is easy to do and cheap. I'm sure there's got to be a writeup here somewhere on how to do it.
