1988 toyota 4 cyl w 5 spd manual tranny...over the past few weeks it has gotten harder to shift thru all the gears. I replaced the fluid w synthetic and no change.....any ideas on what it could be?
Thanks

Here's a thread with some more details and fixes on that problem. When you say you replaced the fluid, do you mean transmission gear oil, or clutch fluid? Is the system properly bled? How many miles on the transmission? I had one with 320,000 miles and it made a hell of an awful noise in second and third, but it shifted like butter.

Don't forget the shifter seat bushing. Some yotatech searches should bring up additional information. You can order it from here:

shifter seat
I changed out my shifter seats. It shifts so much better now.
Both of the stock ones were completly broken up into very small pieces most of which i think fell down into the transmission in my 94.

Sorry I wasnt more specific....The clutch has about 3000 miles on it. I replaced the transmission fluid with synthetic fluid. The old tranny fluid looked ok. The clutch fluid is at normal level....
The hard shifting started about 3 weeks ago. It is hard to shift from gear to gear while your driving, you really have to jam it in. It is also hard to get into reverse, even at a complete stop.
Thanks

Check to make sure the clutch line and slave aren't leaking, and that the mc isn't leaking out the back (yeah yeah, the fluid is at the proper level, just trust me and check em). What's the clutch pedal free-play like. Shifter seat will make it harder to find gears, which can make it harder to grab them as well (end up trying to snag more than 1 gear at once and get nothing). I would agree with replacing it simply because I've never gone to replace one in these trucks and actually had to remove the stocker, they're usually just flat out gone.
Is it hard to get into 1st/reverse as well? I really think you have a clutch issue somewhere if it's in every gear, all the time.
