My ebrake sensor has slowly been goin downhill for the past month or 2, although the button is fully pushed in it will act up and say that the brake is engaged, it's frustrating when your cruise control shuts off on the highway Becuase the brake light turns on... anyway there's 2 wires going to the box/button and I was wondering if you can slice and solder them together? I'm not worried about leaving my brake on because it's a 5spd and it's impossible to take off and not notice the brake is on LOL

 

The parking brake warning switch closes when you apply the parking brake. So if you really want to avoid repairing the switch correctly, you can disconnect the wires. Don't hook them together; that will shut down the cruise full-time.

The OEM part is about $32 http://www.toyotapartsoverstock.com/...455035010.html , but I'll bet it can easily be replaced with a "universal" switch of the right type.

 

Oh I see it's a closed circut when the button is not engaged.. I may try a universal one then, thanks

 

You might want to call toyotapartsoverstock before you place an order with them. I ordered a set of brake shoes from them this week because it looked like I was going to save some money. They didn't process my order, instead they sent me a message saying that their website is ran by a third party and at times the pricing is wrong. They included their price in the message but by the time I added shipping it was just as much as the other dealerships I've been purchasing from. They may be a great place to purchase from but I wasn't having any problems with the other places I've used so I cancelled my order.

Just to be sure your brake fluid is full right? I thought my E brake switch was acting up too but it turned out the fluid was a little low. I didn't notice a separate light for it on mine. I could have missed it though.

Just what year do you have I might have a switch for the cost of mailing it.

 

Well today I cut the wires running to the switch/button and kept them both apart and together while driving and the light never turned off... so either it runs off resistance something Is wrong somewhere else in the harness, guess I'm gonna have to take the lower dash off and go through everything and make sure there are no split wires

 

Are you sure your brake fluid level Switch is not causing it to come on? Wither the brake fluid level switch is bad or your brake fluid level is really low?

 

I'm pretty sure it is at the correct level but I will double check tomorrow

 

Didn't you go over the fluid level already? That switch might be a possibility.

 

Haven't looked at it since I posted but I filled it a little over a month ago.. the switch wouldn't matter if the light is on whether the wires are touching or not right?

 

If you disconnect the emergency brake switch, the brake fluid level switch will STILL illluminate the brake light when the fluid is low (or the switch is broken, etc.) So put your finger on the float inside the reservoir; if you push down the light comes on, lift up it goes off, the switch is now working.

What if that doesn't do that? You might have a charging problem. Does you ALT light illuminate with key-on, engine-off?

 

Like Scope said ^^^. Also disconnect the brake fluid level switch, in case it is shorted. Above are simple things that take less time than discussing or getting on the internet and typing on your computer - LOL!

 

But it is much easier if someone else does the thinking that way your brain does not get tired from being used.

I would also guess they might be challenged in the electrical area like my coworkers.

 

Sorry i didnt get back to you guys! My phone broke and i couldnt remember my password... But my fluid level was at about halfway between min and max and i filled it up to max and the light went away. Thanks for the help!
