Take the washers you have and lay a piece of sand paper(fine grit) on the flattest surface you can find and rub the washers on it until all the grooves in the washer are gone. I called and left you a message.

TOYOTA........cheap......order extras......i dropped a few before i put a "net" under the area.
i don't recall actually, but i believe (and I could be VERY wrong) they are ??hollow??......well, whatever.....i think they are like 79cents apiece.

it runs. and it runs well. i have a temporary fix on the cold start injectors, but those will vanish soon enough. i'll do timing tomorrow, along with burping the radiator.
now for a spin around the block!

aaand just got back from a li'l test run. runs fine with a few stutters (very few). also, i was waiting at a light, and the idle dropped to a tad below 500. i had to tap the gas to keep from stalling out, but after i turned around to head back, it was fine. huh, any ideas? i'm about to call it quits for the night, but i'll be back at it tomorrow

Man, it must have been great to pull outta there running, eh? WOOT! Great job, man!
Far as the crush washers, ....one of them is copper and one is soft steel/tin/aluminum? hahaa. It's silver, I'll just say that. Far as my leaks, it was my damper. I did what RBX said and voila! Just used some emery actually, ...wasn't bad with impression, etc., so it worked fine. However, ...the CSI ones?/Yeah, I'd just get it, I did, and they were like 4$ each. The one with the tongue on it is a lil more, but both are like 7$ I think? With those fresh clean things in there, why not use new ones, eh? lol. (HOWEVER< ....that method probably would work fine on those, as well
)
Have a nice night sleep, man, ...bet you're wiped out, eh?
PS> LOOKS GREAT, ..like that color scheme, ..it's AGGRESSIVE! grrr, lol.

Ian, your stutters could be the computer relearning a fuel map. If the ECM is unplugged for a while, the computer resets and returns to the base-map, then relearns as you drive more and more. And if the timing isn't set correctly, it may have a more difficult time learning.
Set your timing up, and reset the ECM(pull the fuse), then take her for a spin. Let her warm up good, then give her a good flogging. Make a few good shakedown runs, if something is going to break you want it to happen now....my guess is...nothing will break.
I also want to hear how those injectors feel now that they are balanced.

Congrats man, glad you got her done!!! Looks good. I'm at a stand still till i get some cash. Heads and block are done and awaiting p/u. Just waiting on some funds to clear. Have the rebuild kit on hand so its just a waiting game....

so far, in between stutters, the engine runs smooth. and if the 22r-e wasn't famous for it's loud valve tap, i would call it quiet.
thank you to everyone who helped out (92, mark, brandon, peow, lumpy, rb, and the list goes on...)
i could not have done this as easily as i did were it not for your continued wealth of knowledge. it feels good knowing that i can now do any repair to the engine. take that, dealership! thank you all so much
