89 Truck-no torque in gear

I have an 89 SR5 V6 auto 4X4, engine runs great and strong in neutral, when it is in gear it has almost no torque or power. I have to turn overdrive off to accelerate and go up hills. Need help trouble shooting. Anyone else had a similar problem?

What have you done as far as trouble shooting goes?

Got coolant? Compression test? How are plugs/wires? How does the oil look in the engine/tranny etc, break stuck on?

Lots of variables here. Help us help you. The more info you can give the better.

Just had a tune up, everything on the engine checks out good. The brake is not on. The engine is solid and revs great and has plenty of power until you put it in drive. You can put the pedal to the floor and it creeps along like something is holding it back.

Has your truck given you a milkshake? Check your coolant and tranny oil to see if they look normal. If you don't know what I mean, search "toyota milkshake" with your internet search engine of choice.

I'm not familiar with that engine/tranny but the milkshake is what pops into my head.

How long have you had the truck? Does it have the correct fluid in it?

How many miles, wonder if the cat converter is clogged up.

The truck has 152K, the entire exhaust system was recently replaced from the headers the whole way back. It acts like something is wrong with the tranny. Out of gear it has plenty of power. Any other ideas?

what is your timing set at? try advancing a little. if its too retarded it will rev up in neutral and sound fine but have no power to move fast anywhere.
