84-89 4 runner seat track cable ..

you can always just run a straigtht pieace of bailing wire to each side of the seat that pulls both lock levers when you pull up on the wire, this is an easy quick fix that ive done, but accually will last longer than the cable assembly ever will. the main downside is when you need to pull the seat forward you have to flip the side lever then reach under and pull the wire.

Has anyone ever used a bike brake cable to make it work? This is an Odyssey Giro Lower cable ( for bmx bikes, so they can spin the bars as much as they want) looks like the same design.

passenger seat fixed w/ bike cable
A couple of people asked if a BMX bike gyro cable can be substituted for the Toyota seat cable. I just finished using an Odyssey G3 universal lower gyro cable to fix my seat. The only piece I used from the old setup was the cable end that is screwed to the seat. I attached the two ends of the new double ended cable to the seat track release points just as you would with the stock cable. Well... I actually had to add some washers to get the adjustment right, since the new cable doesn't have double nuts like the stock cable, but it's no big deal. Then I pulled the old single cable sleeve out of the cable end attached to the seat ( see the 2nd pic in post #6 of this thread) and measured roughly the sleeve of the new cable, cut the excess off, and forced the sleeve into the attachment bracket. I did this with the actual cable wire removed from the sleeve. Then I fed the cable wire through the sleeve and measured the cable wire to a length that would pull the seat track lock brackets clear when the seat back was in the forward position ( I think this is the only part of this that is minimally tricky ). Then I compressed a wire rope stop "sleeve" onto the cable w/ my "nicopress" tool, hooked up that end as per the stock cable and it works (for now). I got the cable for $10 + pennies for the stop sleeve, but I've seen the cables online for $5. Not quite as easy as the stock cable, but close and 1/3 the cost. We'll see how it lasts. Hope this helps.

hell, i'm going to switch my stock 4runner passenger seat for a sr5 pickup passenger so that the passenger can slide the seat back for more leg room. the stock runner seats just don't have enough room for anyone not being adjustable at all.....
