4Runner console switches relocation

Has anyone done this? Doing an auto to 5speed swap in my 87.. The top shift tcase is going to come up right where the 3 switches are (rear window up/down, rear window lock, and rear wiper.)

I was thinking of relocating them into the dash. Again, has anyone done this with success? Got any pictures?

Never moved them but see no reason it is not possible.

Perhaps raid the pick and pull so you can get the correct color wires to extend the harnesses for the switches.

Why not get the manual console and be done??

How hard can it be to extend some wiring and dremel a couple holes in dash? I mean really.

Here's mine. It's a second gen, but it should help.

Awesome! Thanks for that... But why didn't you just use original wire/plugs and pull it out from under seat/rug and center console and sip tie it all up unde dash? I'm kind of lost on why you needed extra wire?

The manual counsel's aren't that hard to find. Just search the classifieds here and CL locally. Shipping isn't that bad and all the switches are in the right place

I honestly didn't trace the wires back and figured that they came fom the solenoid in the back. Do they just come down from the dash?

Yup they run under the seat, under the door trim, the up under the dash I believe. Your way works too tho! What did you do with the other 2 switches?

One difference might be that I have the center console heater as well. I also remember that I didn't want to cut up the wiring harness, so I spliced in on the switch side of the plug. The other switch in there was the window lock, so I deleted that one!

Makes sense!! And you're right, I don't have the console heater as you do. Which may make it a little mor complicated. I will probably delete that window lock as well. What about the third switch? Rear wiper. Delete that too?

Well... On mine the rear wiper switch is on the steering column. You'll have to move that one too, unless you want to get rid of that wiper all together. I do wonder if the wiper switches are interchangeable between generations? I'm not sure on that one.

I just did mine recently cut and lengthen the wires then run them under the carpet forward to just over the radio slot. Only have to dremel one slot out for the 3rd switch. one fits right in the auto switch location the one is just a knock out and trim. I will try to get picture up soon.

Yes, need to extend the wire so you can move switches to dash....

My Mod

Once you remove orig switches from console, it would not make sense to put any other switch there; That's where we're most likely to spill drinks on. That place is better suited for a cup holder.

Cool, Man.
I was was so happy to get that done. Now I just need to modify the insert where the switches and the coin holder used to be. Need some Fiberglas work done to it.

Those wires don't carry high current so I believe I used 18AWG. That's even thicker than needed for window control lines, but I like to simplify my inventory so I pretty much stock only:
18AWG for signal/low power wire.
12AWG for power wires like headlight and starter solenoid circuits.
