So Slow

OK, I'm sorry for takening so long and continually reviving my own thread. This is my electronic journal for me to put all of these pieces back together (in the right spot). Well works been keeping me busy. So since today was my first day off I went to town. Inspected my interior paint....RUNS!!! So I sanded it down and touched it up, Looks a lot better now. Picked up the remaining stereo components. Can't wait to get that in. They include a truck box enclosure, Rockford Fosgate punch P1 10" sub p110s4, Pioneer 4" 2-way speakers (ts-g1040r) for under the dash, pioneer 6.5" 4-way(ts-a1681r) for the doors, and FREEBIE ultimate TA4320 4ch amp (560w) nothing special but better than stock and will sound awesome for my needs.

Heads are on, Torqued and ready for the rest of the items. I cleaned up the intake manifold, plenum, TB, and corrected my mistake with the Battery cables. Now if I can spare some more time I will finish this aspect of my truck before too long.

It's funny, I took some time off from my Yota and now all the parts look foriegn, SCARY! Oh well she's coming back to me slowly but surely. I took the time and masked off the chrome on my grill including the lettering and hit the "black" up with the rustoleum. Looks sweet. Well updates and pics will come on a more steady basis (Hopefully).

Keep with me. Rookie mechanic, way over his head buut pushing forward!

Morph,

reviewing your post hear leads me to the determination that you no longer qualify for "ROOKIE" status, you must advance into the Journeyman level.....

I say that becasue this has been a journey for you.....

Yeap I am still waiting to see how this goes for you....nice to know all is still going well....

What are you getting for mpg? Mine suddenly started gaining more power this week too. I didn't do anything to the truck, except fill it up with gas. So I figure it was either the gas (maybe summer gas) or the old goat over-heard me talking to ORS about a 3.4L swap.

~18mpg on a drive of 150 miles doing 75-85 mph..

Doing 65 and staying out of the gas should get me a good bit over 20...

Morphine has sound!!!

Ok so I'm working on finishing up the interior (plus or minus mounting the bucket seats). I got the HU installed, front 4" speakers and the door panel 6.5" speakers. I'm a little confused on the setup of the amp install kit and 10" sub, so that will wait till tomorrow or later (just not too long). Well I hooked up the battery and ***Lights, Images, and SOUND!!!***. Ok so it's a ghetto install for now, no plastic around the HU, but hey, I was only testing it.

One snag I did run into....

The door speakers magnet is now hitting the window frame inside the door panel. Can I just cut a square 7" piece of plywood (or similiar) and cut an opening in the center for the speaker thus raising the speaker off the door 1/4" to 1/2" to help clear the magnet? Secure the wood to the panel, maybe even speaker carpet over the wood, and then mount the speaker to the wood??? Or will I get to much "RATTLE" off the wood?

EDIT: --I'm looking at something like this: Corey's pods . Will having the previous holes in my door panel affect the sound quality to much?

Long day tomorrow and Monday but I'm gonna try a cram as much time for my Yota in there as I can.

For the amp install, to run power I used this grommet in the engine bay to feed the 4ga power line through and will most likely run the line were it is shown it the picture only securing it though.

Area 1,) shows where the line comes into the cab. Area 2.) is where I'm thinking of running the line under the carpet to keep it out of the way. Any input on these would be greatly appreciated. (Bumpin'Yota, I sent you a PM regarding this).

Morph,

I think that is a good a place any to run the wire throught the FW, the path down the door jamb is where almost everyone else goes as well. To me and IMHO your on target with the install.

now for a quick smart butt......for all this to sound it's best while crusin down the trail something up front is required....... ;0)

It really does look good so far......

I deserve that

Ok dragon, that is true. I'm working on it. 5 minutes a day at my present pace. Not to much more to do before she is on the road again.

Hooked up???

I thought I was doing it all myself. J/K

Yeah I know it was last years model, and it was the stores last one. I got mad hookups on everything I bought. Can't go into details but lets just say that my system's total cost is less than most HU's alone.

Updates and a Question...

Almost there...Really...I'm almost there. Where that is I don'y know, but I'm close.
No really, I used Dynamat on my door panels and finished my custom speaker pods (more like panel extenders to clear the magnet). Take a look below and telll me what you think.

For my question: I can't find the bolt that came off my negative battery cable to ground it to the block. Does anyone know the specs on this bolt or should I just hit up the dealership for the bolt? Are there other places I could ground to? Am I not even in the right hole?(please no jokes on the last one) I can't ground my ˟˟˟˟˟ and it's pi$$ing me off.

OK Pics:

Custome door pods, two tone fabric, my first attempt and I'm damn happy with them and the sound. (mickey mouse ground to test stereo)

Nice install! (BTW, did you see my soundproofing install on p.2 of my sig home page?). As for grounding, you can also ground to the frame as far as I know. I have a 4g ground to the engine, and 3 other 10g grounds going to the frame and 2 body locations. I will just let the elctrons pick which way they want to go and they are happy.

WOW! Just got done reading this whole thread for the first time from the beginning to the last page. So much useful information here. Very Very nice. I even had a few good laughs and some heart felt thoughts along the way of reading it.

Morphine, for not being "a mechanic" you deserve some kind of an achievement award for presenting your hard work to everyone, seriously, you and the others that have continuously offered insight have convinced myself to tackle and take on bigger jobs. You dont even know how helpful this thread will be in the future.*Thanks*
I cant wait to hear how everything turns out when its finally done!

My understanding about the negative terminal is that it should ground to the block and not to only the frame. I don't know what the technical reasons are, but just remember reading it somewhere.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments everyone. If someone could please give me the specs on the bolt that grounds the negative cable to the block I'd appreciate it and owe you. Just to clarify I'm looking for the negative cable off of the car battery. Mine came off the block near the front of the starter(towards the front of the cab) and some how I misplaced the bolt. I've ground the stereo equipment to the cab/frame no problem.

Bike4miles: Yes I did read through/look at you page and actually used some of the insight posted there to help me. I also used Bob_98SR5's info to guide me. Granted I only have a std cab but all the prior expeirences help.

Thanks again, Almost there.

Morph, dont know if this would be any help to you or not, but when I had my std cab and put a system in it, I ran the power cable from the battery, down the fender well, underneith the truck and then up into the cab through a rubber plug thats already in the floor of the cab. It put the cable comming up behind the seat. The cable was ran in custom bent pvc conduit from the battery down under the truck and ended where the cable went up into the floor. It was 1 guage welding cable from a welding supply place. Worked like a charm for many years. I pulled it all when I sold it.

Thanks for the input williemon, but I'm gonna leave the 4ga power line going through the FW where it is in the pics. Seams to be working fine for me. My only question now is what bolt to use to secure my battery's ground cable to the block. Any one, please, help

Morph,

The bolt is pretty standard as far as the toys goe either a 10 or 12 MM hex head and the threads are going to be a 1.25 pitch.....yeap metric.....I am pretty sure it is the 12 MM.....
