Lets have a Fire ?
OK so just for clairfication. If gas shoots out from arround the top of the fuel injector ( 92ish 4runner ) its that they (the injectors )are installed wrong and I have to remove all that crap off the top and realighn the fuel rails and injectors correctly ?
It would have nothing to do with presure is my question, can you have too much pressure to cause the gass to get past the oring in the injector? I tested it all when initally put togeather - the injectors move freely within the mounting rail...and still do. The seem too loose actually - could be crappy orings? these are new .
got a match ?
ok

Any increase in MPG?
Great job on your mods and on the head job Morphine. I began to sence some procrastination as you kept modding this and that without getting back to the heads. I found it both funny and entertaining. Then you came out and posted the thread about being scared to finish the project. I can totally relate though. I've started many automotive projects and then feel overwhelmed and ask myself "what have I gotten myself into". Good job though. It really pays off to have great mechanic friends.
Maybe you mentioned it and I over looked it, but did you notice an increase in MPG. If so, how much?

If you still have that could you send it to me? I'm rebuilding a 3VZ-E right now and I'm afraid I'm going to forget/mess something up. Any help would be appreciated.

knock sensor
its located in the middle of the block...in between the heads. you would have to take off the intake manifold to get to it.
pictures of it are in this thread.

I second LDL. Morphine...I also wanted to thank you for your very detailed description and awesome pictures of the whole process.
I had no experience working on cars other than changing the oil or brake pads.
My head gasket blew in February of this year, found out that my car was manufactured 5 months after the RECALL was being honored. (I don't know if they are still honoring that recall or not) I had quotes for 1000 - 2500 to repair the head gaskets.
Started to take the engine apart in March. I was low on funds so it sat in my buddy's garage until just these past few weeks. About $600, several nights up till 4am, multiple machine shop runs, auto parts store runs, and hours researching and referencing your thread...my 95 4runner 3.slo is out front of my place and running better than ever.
Thanks!
Now I just have to replace that damn cv boot that has ripped yet again!! The 4th time in 6 years...but at least now, with this head gasket experience, I can tackle the cv boot with confidence. Might even go for a modest lift too! Sure that won't help the cv boot situation though.

Nice job ! I did very close to the same with mine a year ago and dont' regret the work one bit. She runs and sounds GREAT. By chance have you had to drive it through emissions for CA yet? I'm about to renew the reg. on mine in PDX and curious what my chances are

Update:
I took mine into the PDX Metro and passed emissions! Very happy, particularly since I was hesitant of the exhaust blowing it over. If you haven't done yours for CA yet, this is an update that yours may squeak through (depending on their select difference of standards) . 113 HCs PPM and a Co2% of 11/100 for mine; good luck!
