Exclamation 3vze question

Are the 3vze known for the valve cover gasket not seating well and leak ? , and is it possible for the 3vze to leak oil from the rear cam cap block off on the back of the head ?

Well, it's known for requiring you to follow the directions. http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...68cylinder.pdf (pg EG2-80) If you don't, the valve cover will leak, most likely from the back. The instructions are not difficult.

All I would add is to make sure the sealing surfaces to which you apply RTV are squeaky clean. I use paint thinner; brake cleaner might be even better. RTV won't stick well to oil. Many on this site swear by Toyota FIPG. To my mind, FIPG just sets much faster than RTV (good if you're charging by the hour). Since I'm not a professional, I like a little more time to get it on right, and I can easily wait overnight before driving away.

I'll say it again, the oil leakingest engine ever made. If someone(and there's been a few try) tells me there 3VZ-E doesn't leak from the valve covers, I say BS! Maybe because you've just changed the gaskets, and your still within the ever-so short grace period of non-leakage that buys you. But in time...they will leak again. GUARANTEED!

Oh and, of course it's possible. And highly probable to boot.

Toyota FIPG (Form In Place Gasket) has a very short open time. Be sure your mechanic reads and follows the instructions carefully regarding the cleaning of surfaces and open time.

Edit: I see scope103 said the same thing earlier.....too much speed reading on my part.

^^X2

Also as scope103 said surface preparation, IMHO that's probably most important.

So does it require a gasket plus the form in place gasket or just the FIPG ?

Yes, valve cover gasket set and apply FIPG (Seal Packing) on noted areas.
Look again at post #2, scope103 posted link and page #.
Do it the way it's explained and torque as specified.
Do not over torque as these gaskets seem to leak easily.
When I did mine I set each valve cover on a old piece of glass I had.
Check for warp'age, worked good for me.

Thanks, it's kinda odd that the FIPG is only placed at the ends of the valve covers and not all the way around ? But that's what the manual says.
