Non-ceramic, stainless from Jim. he had it listed for 420, i got them for $400 and picked up some Superswamper? Hubs for 50$ extra i believe. 2" Bodylift from 4crawler is installed, i'm just measuring everything and building heatshields for starter, electrical, brakes, fuelline, etc. I am unsure where to relocate the transmission cooler that is under the passenger side, but that's my mission tonight, that is if i can get the GF off my junk long enough.

Any room in front of the radiator for the T cooler? Feel like a salesman mentioning to coat them headers with flameproofing. I'd mention the brand I use in a second post if I got any kick-backs. As for the GF, they make a good creeper and you dont get your clothes dirty.. if you're naked, that would be like killing two birds with 1 bone.

well i guess the "transmission cooler" i'm refering to is cooling the transfer case to be more specific. so i would rather keep it in the same area of the vehicle. Downey suggested moving it around, mounting it to the body, this sort of stuff, so i was more curious where other people had remounted theirs' doing this exhaust/header stuff.

As for selling me on flameproofing, what does this stuff actually do? a) prolong the life of the header? b) reduce heat transfer to other neighboring engine components?

As for the lady situ, good advice, but i got to leave work first and i prefer to take my time and focus on one baby at a time,

The easiest way would be flipping the cooler around and mounting in front of the gas tank. Fabricating a ducted protective cover would be ideal.

You got it; the flameproofing reduces the heat your new headers will otherwise throw off and longevity is a bonus. I think VHT makes it in clear as well. Might as well do it right the first time.

I like the idea of it, but that pipe going under the front drive shaft is just a waste of good money. That thing is gonna get trashed like that. Real nice system, poor routing. I left the stock manifolds on and the pipe to the cat. Put on a high flow flow master that comes out into duals. 200 bucks, and sounds awesome! Everything is nice and tucked up under the truck. If possible you might want to check into rerouting that pipe.

The down pipe does not look right to me. I am sure its suppose to be that way, BUT, I think it is gonna get smashed. Unless you do no off roading at all. Down below the driveshaft is where the tuff stuff is, and thats a hollow pipe. Just my opinion?

I've been on a few wheeling trips since installing the exhaust, and i personally have had no issues with it. All headers for the 3.0 are designed this way. ( LC engineering, Doug Thorley, NWOR ) I can see how you'd say it could be smashed but i would serious have to be the most unlucky person in the world... it would hit my crossmember before it would hit the exhaust piping. the pictures dont really do it justice, but the piping is actually in reality about an 1 1/2" above the crossmember. I did this exhaust upgrade and went to kyburz with no lift on 31s... never hung it up or hit it on anything. now im on 33s and will be lifting it. If it ever concerns me, i'll just get a belly pan

I guess I would have bought the headers, mufflers and tips. Then had my muffler shop fab it up with an x pipe to. I like a clean tucked exhaust. I do understand it was deisgned that way. Maybe I am old skool or maybe its just not for me. Either way nice job...

I personally would be worried about the exhaust there too, I hit my front drive shaft once when I was still IFS on a rock, It would have destroyed that pipe for sure. Now it would not work at all with the SAS and drive shaft.

Any improvement in fuel economy?

I've never hit anything in that area except my transfer case sheet metal... its a little bent, but no biggie. I usually stay away from rocks anyway, so its not a big deal.

fuel economy... yes and no. its hard to keep my foot off the gas so i can hear it roar... so im still getting 16-17 mpg. but if i lighten it up a little, i get around 18-19. thats without a tune up in... years.

Looks good, still waiting on mine to come, been almost 3 months! If what i was told is right, i should have them before the weekend so i can get working on it in a few days.

thanks for posting up all of those pictures detailing how the y pipe connects. I have been curious! Bought a starter blanket, and some other heat resistant stuff to guard the ebrake line, brake lines, passenger floor. Hope there is nothing that sneaks up on me. My truck HAS to run by the end of the weekend i do it on or i wont be able to drive home. Was kind of worried because my truck is an 88, first year of the 3vze, why i think maybe there will be a few odd things that come up?

^^^ lmao exactly. the pipe is rather tucked in there... the picture makes it look like it hangs down.

also, all that heat resistant stuff is not even needed... i've had mine on for 20k ish miles now? haven't melted a thing or had anything go wrong.

Ya know, hearing the sound on those video's almost makes me cry...make's me miss the sound of my old 3.0. but instead it was taken from me by a woman in an expedition who decided to stop short.

but i have to agree with alot of the people sayin that you should probably re-route that crossover. with my headers i cant tell you how many times i hit that crossover. it's in a very bad spot. i would route it behind the t-case if i did it again, just like NWOR's kit.

have you seen the new tacomas exhaust system? they are routed similar, although the taco has more clearance as its factory and not aftermarket. if toyota went back and re did out exhaust im sure it would be similar with more clearance
