3vze complete exhaust

I had an extremely long weekend, becase as many of you know I have been itching to get involved in installing my exhaust for my 4runner. im in the process of putting it all together. but the headers ARE on. I did them all myself, and have no real mechanic experience. so after 14-16 hours of wrenching, I did it. Im very pleased with it and it was such a sigh of relief. I'll be posting videos, pics... the whole nine yards. But first, I figured i'd post up a part and price list of the entire project. its not entirely done yet ( yes Im running straight pipes, for now. The cross over ends right above the crossmember ) the rest of it gets done tomorrow. so stay tuned :D

How much I've spent so far:

Doug thorley Headers - $618.00 - Summit Racing - Part #DTE-505C
Borla Turbo muffler - $150.00 - Summit Racing - Part #BOR-40981
Magnaflow hi flow cat - $65.10 - Ebay - Part #94105
Summit exhaust tip - $20.00 - Summit Racing - Part #SUM-690051

More to come:

Pipes welded on - $ 190.00
Innerchangeable straight pipe - $40.00

Total cost - $1083.10

Ohhh... they're coming. lemme get settled in my house for a little while... I seriously just spend almost 2 days at a friends house... im covered in grease and haven't showered... im exhaust...ed :P lol

Jay351 09-27-2009 04:37 PM

I know the feeling :) Its time for a nice shower, some food and a beer..or two..or three :) A nice splizang helps too ;)

MaK92-4RnR 09-27-2009 04:39 PM

not old enough for beer... but water is refreshing. im just really satisifed with the fact that I did it myself... makes me appreciate it more. though, i'll admit... pulling that crossover pipe down from behind the block made me want to take a sawzall to the side of my truck...

Jay351 09-27-2009 04:42 PM

Yeah, that crossover is a biatch. Most guys just cut the sob out..

MaK92-4RnR 09-27-2009 04:43 PM

I ended up cutting it. lol I didn't have a metal blade with me, so i used a wood one :P heh jacked it up hella bad. but yeah. I was REALLY surprised when I got the manifolds out. those suckers weigh easy 20-30 lbs each. i was like Whoa! they weighed more than both of my headers combined.

3 Attachment(s)
heres a little eye candy before installation :D

Jay351 09-27-2009 05:01 PM

Yeah, those cast suckers are heavy :D

So, I gotta ask, how does it sound??

oh yeah, make sure you keep an eye on your fuel lines around the passenger side header. My friends headers burned a hole right through the fuel line!!

MaK92-4RnR 09-27-2009 05:03 PM

right now? i sound like a tractor rolling down the road. but jesus... its loud. my pipes are only at the cross over... gonna take it monday to get it all welded up and looking good :D Im hoping for a really throating smooth hum/rumble to it :D

Jay351 09-27-2009 05:06 PM

Haha. good stuff! Let us know how much better she feels :)

MaK92-4RnR 09-27-2009 05:08 PM

honestly, I haven't really noticed a difference yet... maybes its because im too distracted by the roaring of my v6 that sounds like a monster truck but yeah. i'll definitely let you know... the engine DEFINITELY runs alot cooler, that I have noticed. so at least its done some good so far :) Im gonna swing it by the exhaust shop, get it all welded up then Im gonna take it to a mechanic I always go to and make him check for exhaust leaks, and such... make sure everythings up to speed and done 100% correctly.

kawasakimoto_7 09-27-2009 05:09 PM

i bet you i could do them faster than 12 hours or whatever..
and i bet i could get mine done within a hour or so (22re) its called things like im more mechanically advanced with tools. and the hour would be with me working as fast a possible.. if no one thinks i cant do that try me..
and yea the truck sounds like a 350 v8.

Jay351 09-27-2009 05:15 PM

22re is MUCH MUCH easier than the 3vze...

The 3vze is a v6, double the work, plus there is no room at all to work with :(

MaK92-4RnR 09-27-2009 05:18 PM

yeup... I could barely even fit my hand. no one could beg me enough to get me to do it again... it was rather stressful and quite a drag.

kawasakimoto_7 09-27-2009 05:33 PM

exactly, like i said, he took like 12 or so... i bet i can do mine in 1. i have more reasources though
