Toyota engines routinely go double that, and with good care can triple that.

3.slow is the unreliable one due to head gasket issues.

yes...but what if the said 3.4 has been treated like crap? or is one of the 3.4's with the Oil Sludge problem?

the fact of the matter is, even though the 3.0 has headgasket issues (caused by the build up of Heat from the crossover that i DO NOT have.) is a little bit of a better motor because it's basically NEW.

take it like this...

1UZ with 150,000 miles on it?
or rebuilt 3.4 with 0 miles on it?

obviously the 3.4 is the better deal.

still i would have more faith in a brand new rebuilt 3.0 than take a chance on a ragged out 3.4. 200,000 miles on mine and its still running strong

This is what I like to see... some love for the 3vze!! I rebuilt mine at 256,000 on the ticker and it was worth every penny! Good luck Camo, you have done the right thing by breathing new life into your 3.0! You won't be sorry! Keep the updates coming!

well, didn't get to put fluids in last night...it got a little late and i had to get up this morning for class.

seems like it took me FOREVER to get the dang exhaust buttoned up...and all i had to do was attach MY downpipe to the passenger side manifold (major pain in the arse...)and then attach the driverside downpipe (also a major pain in the arse...) took me a good hour or so just to tighten that up..and i'm still not done with the driverside pipe..got to tighten it some more...

i doubt i'll get to work on it tonight, maybe though..gotta go see a girl at a football game ..she's homecoming queen...so i'm DEFINITELY goin

but tomorrow.....oh it's ON.

gotta put the coolant lines onto the oil cooler...and then i'm GOOD TO GO

i don't have a battery for it...kinda just realized that..lmao

but i hooked up some jumper cables to the battery cables..got in..turned the key on..and EVERYTHING works when i first pulled it into the garage..nothing would work, so this is a good sign!!!!!!!!

i'm LITERALLY about to walk down to my shop, air up the front tires (let the air out so i could pull the motor and such, ole girl is tall lol) and fire it up..get it in time, and take her for her maiden voyage through town...WISH ME LUCK!!!!!!!

that's the plan anyways, all i want to do right now is get it started lmfao

dam i'm waiting to see it run.i read the whole post. i have a 88 3vze the guy i got it from said it was rebuilt i don't trust him becuz it leaks oil but it runs good 210,000 on the clock. i took the same motor out of my 90 4runner bought a brand new crank and pistons only to find out the spare block a got has a crack in one of the cylinder but i still have all the parts i went to chevy power still expense. And my 87 is a 22re and also has axle swap.

idk about SEEING or HEARING it run (you guys i mean)

but i pulled it outta my shop just a minute ago

she runs GREAT!!!!! but won't idle i'm not exactly sure why either..the farther that i turned the distributor CLOCKWISE..the better it runs...it's all the way at the end of the adjustment and it acts like it needs to go some more..so does that mean my distributor is off a tooth? i put it in there just like the FSM says..but i guess i COULD have gotten it wrong lol.i haven't stuck a light to it yet though..

other than that..the clutch needs to be bled a little more..i can push the clutch in..and it has a hard time going into gear..but if i shove it fast then it goes in fine..i'm SURE it needs to be bled some more cuz everything else is new and correct.

I agree with Hawk! Get a timing light on there asap and check it! Hopefully you're timing chain is set on the correct teeth as well! Just a precautionary statement but are you sure all your vacuum lines are sealed and vacuum is solid all around? Double check everything... You have put all this hard work and effort into the rebuild so take the extra time to go over it again and don't let all your hard work go down the tubes! Good Luck!

i'm going to go over all my vacuum lines again this evening..there is ONE port on the intake manifold that is SUPPOSED to have a vacuum line on it...but i don't have one that will fit it? kinda weird..i'll post pics for help!

its the V6 so it has a Belt Mucus, and it's right..i checked and double checked it before i put it into the truck! lol

i'm thinking the distributor is off a tooth

Right, Right... Belt! I said chain but meant belt! Was a brain fart there .. Still finishing my cup of coffee! As long as you did double check it is what matters! When I rebuilt my motor, shortly after I bought the Runner, I found that the previous owner had the timing belt replaced at his regular mechanic, but that guy put the belt on a tooth off! Made for one extreme pita when trying to time the truck before I decided to rebuild the motor! I had the truck for about 4days before the rebuild! Best thing I ever did!

One of mine is blocked on my truck not sure which one I can go look. I know it's on the pass. side. Never really bother to find out why but there is a screw in. It still runs good just hard to start when it is cold out.

could taking my EGR completely off (the two parts that bolt onto the passenger side exhaust manifold and intake) cause my "no idle" problem?

it would idle before i rebuilt the motor...and now it won't..but the farther i turn the distributor to the right, the better it gets, but it still won't idle..but the farther i turn it to the LEFT..the quicker it dies.

my plugs are gaped to .036 and i was told that setting the timing at around 12*-10*BTDC would produce the best results in terms of power and MPG's

i'm thinking EITHER the Distributor is off a tooth.

or removing the EGR has cause a vacuum leak that i don't know about..or something similar?
