1st gen shackle and spring bushings...options

Hello all,

I've been searching for poly bushings for the '86 and found plenty...Daystar, Energy Suspension, etc. But, I haven't found anyone with greasable bolts and poly bushings....unless I just missed it.

Does anyone know where to get these at a good price? Are they made for this vintage?

I've not ordered any bushings and shackle bolts, yet. I've searched, but I'm having trouble determining the length of bolts to order. Is the measurement to be taken from the whole length of the bolt or just the smooth part of the bolt shaft minus the threads?

bolt length is typicall the whole lenght of the bolt minus the hex head part...

The area w/o the threads is called the shoulder and thats spe'cd as a seperate measuerement on some bolts...

Thanks to both of you.

Hmmm...WabFab page is almost identical to Trail Gear's page. Are they affiliated?

Anyway, it shows spacers available. What are those for? I've never done a shackle/spring bushing replacement before.

There are two types of shackles on these trucks. Straight, and offset. The difference is that on the straight the shackle hanger, and the spring are the same width. On the offset they're different widths, hence the spacers. I forget which uses which aside from the fact that 89-95 p/u's use the offset type.

Oh! Okay...that explains it.

And thanks, again, Alex.

Turns out if I still want fender flares to doll up the rusting body of my '86 I will have to forego greasable bolts. Which is fine, but I liked the idea of keeping them quiet and making the bushings last that much longer. Maybe later I can get some and put them in.

I'm still getting the poly bushings, though. Everything I read says they last much longer than OEM or stock replacements. Anyone here to agree? Even without grease points?

I've got the non greasable poly's, and so far I haven't had any issues (10k miles or so). If i do end up having to replace them they're cheap enough that the biggest concern would be making sure the bolts dont get rusted in place.

Yeah, I have the Energy Suspension bushings... They've been on for about 11K miles and some hard wheeling and they are holding up great. I like how the poly bushings don't use the metal tube in the middle because that was seized on all my stock bushing bolts. Also, like was said, they are cheap to replace if need be. I think it was like $25 for the set.
