1st Gen Sequoia Towing ability?
Hey all. This is my first post on this forum but I have been here several times lurking because I have an 01 4Runner and this site has plenty of good DIY's in that area. That being said most forums are pretty scarce on Sequoia info.
Now I love my 4Runner but I have a 3800# pup and after my last trip I decided I need a V8. Hill climbing at 50 mph is not cool on a 75 mph highway. All I need is some zoned out driver slamming into me setup from behind to ruin my day.
So the 2nd Gen Sequoia 5.7s are the best choice for towing but I would like to know if there are any 1st gen Sequoia owners willing to chime in on their 05+ 5 speed towing experiences. I definitely want the 5 speed automatics because my 4Runner's 3 gears with O/D off just makes me feel like I am torturing my rig.
As much as I would love to just get a 2nd gen, they are pretty scarce in good condition and the price tags are pretty steep. I like the way the 1st gens look and they are much easier to find in clean shape. Even with a 6200# towing rating (for the 4x4) it is still 1200# more than the 4Runner and the V8 I am familiar with from an 05 Tundra I used to own.
I know there are other vehicles I could look at but I am a Toyota fan. My wife drives a 12 Rav4 V6, my dd is a 93 MR2, and my expedition vehicle/family transport is the 01 4Runner. I am also considering the 2nd Gen Tundra but I prefer the SUV because I have dogs and don't want them sitting in my daughter's lap on road trips.
TIA.

If you want to do 75 up hill towing I would recommend a 3/4 ton Turbo diesel
That being said a friend of mine has a 1st Gen Sequoia (07 i think) he tows his Jeep LJ on a flatbed down to the Rubicon from PDX and also tows an 18' hybrid trailer (hard side with tent trailer popouts) that is probably about 4k or so and he says it does fine
