Somewhere here recently someone posted the hose sizes and a general amount you need to buy. The silicone hoses in lengths you cut weren't too expensive on eBay. The kits seem to be a rip.

Here's the installation instructions from softopper. If you need any parts they are good to deal with:

hey guys, 2 quick questions, one how hard is it to swap a 3rz into a 1st gen 4runner? i found a motor and tranny with ecu for 350$. also, how hard is it to convert a 22rec to a 22re, from my understanding the 22rec is just a california spec model with a bunch of emissions bullcrap.

3rz swap sounds good. 150 HP stock and you can supercharge or turbo and go big.
05+ has 164 HP.

Making the 22REC an RE is pretty much just removing the unnecessary emissions crap. I don't know the details involved, but I'm sure a quick search can lead you in the right direction. Someone on here has to have done it before.

A couple of posts back you asked about vacuum hoses. LCE has a kit for $29.95. According to them for a 22RE you need:

12 feet 4mm
6 feet 6 mm
1 foot 8 mm

Check eBay. I think it's about $1 a foot there.

Here's a link to the FSM, should tell you the differences between the two in the emissions control system section.

http://www.functionalfab.com/resourc...%204runner.pdf

Might take a bit to load, it's the whole manual, but you should be able to save it to your computer from there.

basicaly the 22re is a federal 49 states engine and the 22rec is the california 50 state engine. it has more emission bs on it.

UPDATE!; FINALLY GOT THE FREAKING NEW MANIFOLD ON!!!! im so happy. lol. doesnt tick more than any normal 22re now went with a dorman exhaust manifold. for 60$, its decent quality. bolted right on. pretty close to a factory manifold. learned how to used helicoils tonight aswell. btw i got a whole box of 10x1.50 helicoils if anyone wants to buy em half price. i only needed one. kinda sucked having to pay 40$ for it.

hope you find the power you're looking for. Also you might look into swapping the battery and intake locations. i haven't tried it but i have read a few threads where they have and it helps some. it doesn't seem to hard either. i would post a link but i can't find the thread now, if i find it or try it i'll let you know.

i got a snorkel so unless its like a 20 hp gain, i cant really bring myself to put another hole in it lol. and the tune up and maintenance has honestly improved the power alot. the valve adjustment seemed to improve my torque band and after i change the oil, honestly i think the rest could be the gearing, but i am no longer going into 3rd to climb hills. so hooray for that lol. anyone know anyone who has 4.88 that want 4.10s? shot in the dark lol.

after thought...lce has a throttle body spacer for $80, that with the right intake, exhaust and most likely injectors (to keep a good ratio) would be helpful. almost all the stuff that people have said in this thread will get you a little bit of power or response. remember throttle body spacer!

did i say battery intake swap...silly me keep the snorkel it's more useful for sure. lol. all tho taking that into consideration the throttle body spacer would help out tons and give back some of the air lost in all the turbulence of a snorkel.

hmm, i wonder if anyone has done a throttle body spacer with a snorkel, seems a little counter productive to me. maybe if i redid the snorkel with larger diameter piping. ill try and take pics at some point when i clean the engine bay up and am not totally embarrassed at how messy it looks. oil everywhere lol. and a littlew mud but i dont care so much about the mud.

okay. its been cold lately, and starting has been difficult, which is weird in a fuel injected vehicle. like it literally takes me 2-3 mins of cranking to start it. it not a slow crank though. just slow to actually start. so i dont think its the starter. its driving me nuts. it only happens when its cold though. it seems to me like its having trouble getting fuel??? but i dont know. it runs fine when it actually starts up. any ideas?
