Today to celebrate six months of this as a daily driver the wife is driving the wrECHO for a while. With gas going up that thing is a better choice for day to day driving and I don't really plan on putting the top back if I don't have to. So the 4runner will be used as a weekend ride or for something fun during the week. It's back in the portable tent if there's a chance of rain.
since the 4runner was available me and the dog cruised to my favorite local hiking spot.
If all goes to plan I should be putting some primer on the fenders and doors next week.
it's no longer a 4runner, it now identifiesas a Kia Sorento. So fuel mileage will improve a bunch now😂
hahaha! I recently reinstalled the “EFI” badge on the tailgate of mine. It doesn’t seem to have improved the mpg, though.
those doors look really good and maybe you could just scuff and shoot them without primer- Unless you primed the other panels in which case you might end up with different shades of white between doors and fenders.
i like the way you are treating it as a “rolling” restoration. Not taking it off the road to work on it. Mine was off too long during bodywork.

ahhh that reminds me, I have a SR 5 badge from another tail gate. I can pit that on and increase the value also. Cool.
Not taking it off the road for restoration isn't the way it is done but it helps me and others doing it that way with motivation. I was thinking about it today I'll just always keep working on it. It will never be done but it will always be in a constant state of repair. Ha !
88 degrees in May and first official trip to the beach. Hammonasset State Park . i don't think we have ever been there this early before. usually Memorial day weekend.
There was this group of people bird watching and a guide talking about the local birds and such. They were all taking photos and there is me behind them trying get a fancy photo of the 4runner. good times.
the 4runner wasn't even the oldest vehicle there today. I spotted this Citrion AMI 6.
Things are happening! The doors came out rougher than the fenders and that's usually how it has come out with my favorite tractor paint. It works as guide coat when block sanding anyhow. Then I got some runs on the fenders but again I still need to sand anyway. This is my first attempt at an actual HVLP sprayer and compressor. I'm gunna try some practice painting with the remaining paint from last fall on some old VW panels.
no time to get the doors done today but the fenders were ready to go so I probably spent more time cleaning the gun than painting . Hopefully tommarow for the doors.
first try showed how bad of a job I did sanding that rough primer down and came out with some runs . I sanded it again and tried again this time it seems I added too much reducer. I'm about out of time plus other projects need attention now so I'm gunna have to try again in the fall. It's time to get the 4runner back together and out cruising again too. I was originally planning on repainting the complete body all together sometime anyhow and that's part of why I didn't do any of the body work yet. The bed needs a lot . But at least I took care of what little rust the doors had now and it's encapsulated. I may try wet sanding and buffing to see if I could fix the orange peel when it cures. We'll see.
meanwhile here is a fun frog picture to make this a happy post again 😉

When the fenders were off I did some extra work on the inner cowl. It started to leak into the cab again because the paint I applied in there was too thick and flaked. I cleaned it
out inside and hit the seams with some rust encapsulator and a nozzle extension. Then hit some if the outside of the cowl and paint.
another thing I'm going to try is I covered the top vents. I'm missing one of the screens and hopefully less water in there will help out, provided the blower motor doesn't suck my covers in. We'll have to see if it works out or not. Sometimes the rain gets into the blower motor currently.
Also thanks to the 20 dollar tail gate I picked up a while ago I was able to replace the fender hardware with new looking stuff.
I sure hope she has a real good sense of humor. That, or NO fear of snakes.
I'm not afraid of snakes. Heck, I used to go out in the desert and catch rattle snakes bare handed. Distract them with one hand, and grab them with the other. ONLY time one "startled" me was a cool morning rare in Yuma. I went out boony hopping, not chasing snakes this time. I stopped to "water a bush", so to speak. About 1/2 way through, the bush started rattling. Loudly! Me and the snake went our separate ways. VERY rapidly.
It's hard to run backwards, while desperately trying to stop "watering", and zip up.
Other than THAT episode, nope, no fear at all

why'd it have be snakes 😂 I almost ran intoa snake that way in Maine once while running to the outhouse. All I saw was a multi colored snake in the path and jumped as high as I could go.
