since the soft top cap is originally made for a pickup truck it folds forward to pack up. I just picked it up and turned it around to go the other way.
I came up with this for now to keep it from getting beat up by the wind when driving. It works out kinda nice now it's is good spot to store things underneath that may blow out of the back. Sorta like a trunk.
some light wheeling.
Remember, there's a circulatory pattern in the bed of a pickup from back to front. With the tailgate up, the pattern creates a bubble of high pressure in the bed. Not only does this allows the slipstream to "slide" over the bubble, reducing drag dramatically. Not only that, it tends to push things towords the cab.
Heck, I threw a used mask in the bed, and forgot I put it there. When I got out and going 20MPH, the mask blew up, and out, of the bed, and into the open window. Kinda surprized me, but it shows the circulation pattern in the bed of a pickup pretty clearly.
Have fun! That IS a nice soft top, no question.
Pat☺
Out in the sticks. You would never guess this was on my way home from getting my taxes done right in my hometown . I saw this cool spot behind an old closed down business.

out and about today exploring in between fishing spots. Home grown bait😎
I had all these back up fishing locations in mind but the second spot turned out to be a trail I didn't know of so next thing I know I'm hiking with fishing gear instead of fishing. Nice place!
thanks, it's still a little of a project yet but I did come up with a better cap to cab seal now. It's a seal for the bottom of a garage door that I picked up at the local hardware store. Plus I added a foam strip to the rails that attach to the bed. I want to add somthing more like a wing nut type of fastener for the bolts to the cab so tools won't be needed to attach it to the cab. I'm also going to add snaps to the frame that attaches to the cab to help speed up the process for putting the top up.
BTW you put together some cool vehicles up there in VT!
Just a regular day of daily driving, running errands and looking at water.
fun lunch stop at one of the local institutions 😉 Bart's Drive In Restaurant in Windsor Connecticut. https://bartsdrivein.com/aboutus/
I found out what that storage compartment is for.
70 degrees and top off cruising in a T shirt today!
We saw a lot of cool old cars out today.
We took advantage of the decent weather and took a trip out to People's State Forrest in Barkhamsted CT. I really love how one section you can drive through some of the forest on a somewhat unimproved road. Where we got the compliment from some young guys in a Volvo one said " that thing is bad ass" lol.
I decided it was time to set up the temporary garage to park in again during wet weather, even though we now have a soft top.

Turns out that was the best day weather wise for a while and we knew it so squeezed in as must outdoor fun. Then paid for it the next day😂 and didn't do much Sunday really. I've been working on the house the last two weeks prepping the garage for a new roof. I knew there were some issues with rotted wood so it was like working two jobs again so it was some much needed cruising in the 4runner.
speaking of work I decided to drive it to work today.

Well we got some weather so the top is back on. It's a real job to get on when when cold, as I expected. Now with our drive way under construction a truck is needed ☺
We logged around 200 miles this weekend on the 4runner. Saturday was a trip to Palmer MA to Yankee Flea Market . We found some deals there like a gold Phoebe made in USA. Ahh maybe I'll catch more fish on that one........
Today was a trip to Mystic CT. Doing its best to blend in with the modern cars.
We saw this on the way home.
Since your 4Runner seems to have a Softopper rear window I thought I'd mention that the Softoppers have a piece of 3/4" conduit in the bottom channel. It may make your window straighten out better. You 4Runner looks great but when are you going to paint the doors? White primer would work well. I'm glad to seeing it have adventures.

thanks for the tip of the topper! None of it wanted to lay flat after being rolled up in the back for a few weeks. I had to adjust it twice to get that front seal to work right. It needs to be sunny and warm. Ironically I wouldn't have it on during sunny and warm weather 😂 the doors are on my list of things to do after two other project vehicles. I plan on getting the front fenders and tailgate at the same time. I'll give you tip I've learned from experience. Don't bother painting anything with primer if you don't plan on covering it soon. Even primer sealer has a short UV life . It will just rust under it.
Hey! I was in Mystic last weekend. The 4runner stayed home, though.🙁
I’d lose that gold Phobe in a tree.🤬
sometimes I just lose lures, period. No tree needed!
Very busy in Mystic. It was the first nice day after lots of rain. We've been wanting to get out there since March but the weather was tricky or we had something else planned.
