Thank you all for your kind thoughts and words. We WILL get through this, somehow. Also, she WILL get better. She will. She has to, you know? I'll get stuff done as I can. Take care all...
Pat☺
oh yeah I almost forgot that today is the two years anniversary of Black Beard joining us. A fun little seaside town. Also a site for filming an episode of Bewitched.
Today is the day ! 3 years ago now. Just like the other old cars we have I whish we got one of these earlier. Like back in 1985. Ha ha
A quick valve adjustment ( more of a check really) then off to hiking. I should have done it back when rebuilding the engine but I added new valve adjuster screws from 22RE performance about 4 or 5 months back. The old ones were getting hard to adjust. Who knows how old they were but I kept the old Cam and rockers because I assumed it was some kind of performance cam from the engine before and it all still looked good at the time. I don't remember how the valve adjuster screws looks then. I know this isn't how you should do things that's why I said I'm no professional at this stuff LOL. Sometimes I just get lucky.
Lol look what's on my home screen. it felt warmer than this! I was hiking in a t shirt, mainly because I forgot my jacket when loading up the dog. This is a new parking area they put together at Fannie Stebbins Wildlife Preserve. The best part is this used to be a good place to get stuck in the mud years ago. Great place to see wildlife too.

Ha! A friend sent me photos of that train layout a couple weeks ago. If you want to know where there are lots of layouts i can tell you. We always sought them out when my son was little.
Getting “no salt” rules. That’s what I want for Christmas!
Usually I want some snow this time of year but ultimately it always melts for Christmas then it's cold before and after only LOL so I'm not feeling it this year haha.
Give details about these train layouts! It'll give us someone do during the winter months. My wife and son aren't into the ice fishing thing like me so indoors it is.
In Essex CT, the Connecticut River Museum has a great layout we saw last year.
Up this way, the Wenham Museum is mostly about toys and has 3 rooms of old operating layouts that were donated.
If you come this far, I will personally escort you to Charles Ro, the largest model train store in the USA, just down the street in Malden, MA
Also nearby in Wakefield MA is the Northshore model rr club with a mind blowing multiroom system. I think they are not currently permitting guests because covid, but i mean it when i say this place is amazing and grows every year http://www.nsmrc.org/about/
It’s hidden underneath a restaurant.
I have heard the MIT train club layout is open to the public but never been to that one. http://tmrc.mit.edu/
And in March, in Wilmington MA, there is a tremendous train/toy show at the Shriner’s auditorium with many impressive layouts and the biggest Lego train layout ever. https://www.trainshow.com/ well worth the trip.
Typically around Thanksgiving in Northern MA, there is the “Tour de Chooch” where private layouts are open to the public. You get a listing of the addresses and plot your own tour. We’ve seen a very impressive G gauge outdoir layout, in Chelmsford, MA.
If you are up in North Conway, the scenic rr has a good layout room but it's not always open. If you can get tickets, the Ice Castles in Woodstock, NH are really impressive and there is a little car museum in Woodstock that is pretty cool. Only train-related insomuch as the ice castles were in the parking lot of Hobo RR, but now they have moved down the road.
That is a really nifty train layout. Thanks for the pictures!
Yes, no salt rules. Around here, south central Oregon, they use crushed up lava rock as a traction aid. Doesn't really do much to melt the snow, but it crushes down into the snow, making it coarser and giving it much better grip. They really lay it down thick at intersections, so cars can accelerate away, and stop better.
The lava rock is a little hard on the lower parts of the paint of cars, but it's still better than salt, IMHO. No rust, just dings and chips of paint. But they're really small, and some quick touch-up come warmer weather takes care of them.
It always amazes me how close together towns, cities, etc are back east. I grew up west coast, and it's a half hour drive to the next town, you know? It seems like back east, a short drive through a tree-lined street, and suddenly, you're in the next town. Amazing to me. Pretty countryside during spring and summer, too.

Wish i knew more in CT to tell you about.
That train layout and store in Malden MA looks like an adventure! I think we'll look into this sometime in January.
here is something to read about on trains, posted by Summit Racing on FB . Perfect timing!

Have fun, all!

I like the idea of crushed lava rock. They use to use a salt and dirt mix in this area but switched over to the brine instead. Now the DOT doesn't have to sweep it up in the spring time. I think it's salt and some kind of liquid chemical to make it stick to the road, and our vehicles. The salt and sand wasn't all that much better. It was abrasive like the lava rock and would stick to the vehicles also.
Happy winter solstice everyone! I was fortunate enough to finish all the outdoor projects that I had before winter, barely... what better way to celebrate winter solstice with a trip out to farm country and a hike rather than working on the 4runner or anything else, for now.
and remember all the talk of trains? Here's the old train station. That's right Pat, a quick 20 minute drive through about 4 towns to get here😅

There was some talk of "the book " not only do I go by the Toyota FSM I found this Bentley a while ago. Bentley is another repair manual I'm familiar with 😁
When we got the 4runner I still had my Hanes manual from back when I owned the 1990 4×2 complete with notes from working on that truck, Another manual I'm very familiar with.
Sad thing is ever since pulling the engine two years ago I couldn't find that Hanes manual for the life of me. I didn't have it to do the rebuild but had a newer copy a friend gave me.

We have same dash crack location and bluetooth adapter. The latter works very well into my aux in. My only gripes are the "Paired/Waiting for Pairing" message is too loud, and sometimes it is loose in the cigarette lighter socket.

I want to try something different to fix that crack one day.
lol, that Bluetooth device is a life saver ! I kept putting off making a hole in the fender for an antenna and just mounted one inside the fender. It doesn't get many stations that way. I just can't bring myself to cut a new fender. Ha ha. I got the idea for the Bluetooth device from a VW friend. Yeah here we are cruising along and bang, big bump and it disconnects and the music stops. I think I'm going to hard wire it in one day. Dirt roads and peoples knees can be a problem. Incidentally that same voice is on my Bluetooth headset. She's following me........
It's beginning to look a lot like a white Christmas! Merry Christmas everyone. Fun little trip wheeling in the snow this morning to go grocery shopping. I have to admit having that Aussie locker in the front ( or in the back in 2WD) it's a little tricky when giving it the gas. No telling which way it's going to pull the front end.
Here are a few photos from my wife out having fun Christmas shopping with the 4runner. Of course I didn't get to see these till yesterday.......
Turbo Man from the movie Jingle all the way.
Y'know, it might just be me, but you work awfully late!
Of course, that's the shift I always tried to get assigned to. No Bosses, do what you want all day...best shift evar!
Yeah, I'm not a "day shift " type of person 🙃 typically I'm on second but that photo is the rare time I am on days. It is so dark that early and that's why I didn't walk to work. One of the convinces of living in the city I live around the corner where I am working currently. Everybody else called it a suburb but I call it the city. Lots of traffic, bad attitude, crime, noise. You name it we got it........
