Sorry, didn't mean to mis-lead... yes, I'm sure it's aftermarket as well. I was referring to it as an aftermarket that was installed shortly after the truck was bought back in the 80's. Hope that clears things up.

Hey guys, new member here, Just picked up an '82 SR5. I think I did good for $1500

It has an exo-cage that is 90% there,
a rebuilt engine with a decent cam and a weber 38, and headers
33 toyo open countrys with almost all the tread
chevy springs
hi-steer
detroit locker in the back
5.29's
later ifs rear axle with bilsteins going in an X pattern
higher front shock towers with bilsteins
Marlin crawler L52HD transmission

It was a dual case setup previously, and didn't come with a transfer case, so the guy who sold me the truck told me about a parts truck I could have for free, he just wanted the front axle housing out of it.

Oh, he also gave me a 3rd member with 4.88's and a limited slip too, so I will probably go to 4.88's eventually.

Now that I have the t-case installed, it is running and driving just fine, but the 5.29's are a little bit much for the 33's, seeing as the truck is set up for 37's I will probably go for at least 35's. I want this thing to be able to do 65 on the highway for a while.

Here is another bad cell phone pic and a video

and here is the parts truck. Lemme know what you guys might need off of it, I got no problem pulling parts and putting them in boxes (for a reasonable fee)

I am also looking for a decent shape shortbed if anyone has a good source in the FL area.

Looks like a pretty good find!

There is a shortbed on eBay in Florida:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/330908145669...84.m1423.l2649

It appears to be in good shape and it has been sand blasted so you should be able to easily see any problem areas. It's been on eBay for a while now and is currently listed at $800, but a week or two ago I noticed that he had dropped it to $600 so you may be able to snag it with a $600 offer. I would consider buying it myself, but I'm going with a fiberglass bed from Toyota Fiberglass so that I can leave rust behind forever!

Yeah i wish I could afford a fiberglass bed, and that ebay one is a lil bit pricey...even for $600

The parts truck had a longbed that was pretty rusted, but i think i will just bolt the nasty thing on my frame, bob it and fix the rust while its on the truck. I like the bobbed longbed look anyways, and driving around without a bed gets real old really quick.

I think the exo-cage is gonna be hacked off too. It cool and all, but i love the full fenders on these trucks more.

$600 really isn't bad for that bed considering the fact that I had been looking for nearly 2 years and that is the cheapest one that I have found that is still remotely intact and relatively cancer free.

Just a FYI, that long bed will not fit a short bed frame. The distance between the wheel wells and the back of the cab is longer on the long bed. You would have to bob the front of the bed to make it work and even after that I'm not sure that the bed mounts would line up.

My truck was at one point a longbed, so the wheelbase is ok, it has had metal chopped out of the back of the frame, and all of the bed mounts shaved off. I'm gonna take the mounts off of the parts truck and relocate them to my frame.

I was hoping to score a decently cheap bed to save myself some rust repair hassles, but now that I have looked around a little bit, I can see that these things are hard to come by at all.

I do need a tailgate though...but there are some promising ones up here in NC, and the amount of toyotas here is rediculous compared to what I am used to. (I live in FL)

look at these beds, what are the chances?

It's rediculous!

Yep, I've talked to that guy. He won't budge on his high prices and all those beds are crap.
