Drain and refill should do, depends on how nasty it is I guess. If it was WAY bad I might run the cheapest stuff I could find for a little while, drain and put in some good stuff. I run all synth in everything in my '81 and have been very pleased but I flog it pretty hard so it's minor insurance.

Super dark and thick. Foamy is not good. Lot's of little metal shavings, not good. Some metal shavings might be normal, but a lot is not, and chunks are not good.

But yeah, if you've got a manual tranny, changing the fluid is a good thing, and the sooner the better. If you drive it around and get it nice & warmed up, you should be able to get the crap out without worrying about flushing.

Also, beware hijacking someone else's thread. You can start your own if you have a lot of questions.

This is what I took out of my axles. I'd say that's pretty bad! I used an air compressor to blow out the diff, seemed to work well.... there was no way that this stuff would have dripped out on its own.

I went to the Quick-Lube, and laughed the whole time as they fought the plugs for 2 hours with an extractor. Best hundred bucks I ever spent.

Also, if anyone knows where I can get replacement plugs, that would be nice. A brief visit to the O'Reilly website didn't turn up any, and I would really like to replace them. Thanks!
