Starting Up My Truck After 5 Years

Hi All,

After a long time sitting idle, I'm ready to start up my 91 DLX 3VZE motor. I started to drain the gas tank but found there was quiet a bit of fuel left, would a fuel conditioner save the fuel or should it be drained completely? Is there anything else I should look out for before turning the key?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Drain it.

Fuel conditioners might slow down the decomposition of gas, but they can't bring it back.

Hopefully your fuel pump is still OK, and your injectors not varnished shut.

Mine sat for 10 years, what i did and prolly you too
Drain and refill gas
change oil/filter
change air filter and check for visitors, mice nests
charge battery
Flush and refill coolant

Once ready to start, pull the fuel pump fuse and coil wire, turn the engine over to get oil pressure and oil distribution
Then replace fuse and wire, say a little prayer that all is good and fire it up.

In addition you should put in a couple of gallons of fresh gas to dilute whatever stale gas is still in there. Also pull each spark plug and squirt about 1 ounce of Marvel Mystery Oil in there. Let it soak over night before you start it. It will smoke until the oil burns off.

if you can access the local small aircraft gas station, a couple gallons of 100ll, or some 103 if you have a source, like near a drag strip or powersports shop. x2 for priming the oil, though it's better with the spark plugs out. if you pull the plugs, then a little oil (preferably 2 stroke)in the top of the cylinders will help.
