New Plugs, wires, distributor cap now wont start

22R replaced plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor bug underneath cap. Went to start it and barely ran for a second now wont run at all. I can get it to turn over but no fire. I was by myself and cant tell if i'm getting spark from the coil or to the plugs. Is there anything else i may have missed? I double checked the firing order 1-3-4-2 clockwise starting at top left (if standing over drivers side front tire) closest to radiator.

180 out? They gotta be just right, even a couple teeth off and they won't run right.

I got it to run rough for a second. Now it just turns over and wont do anything. I have a friend coming over tonite to look at it. Hopefully we can trace it down. I didnt take the distributor off just took the cap off. Would that throw the teeth off? Or is it that rotor bug that rotates around that is off just a little?

check the green connector on the distributor. make sure that is hooked up and it is connecting properly. Please come back and let us know what you find out. It helps others out that may have the same issue.

What confuses me is i had it running like a champ for about 2 seconds, started to feather the gas and it died. Now cranks but wont fire. I'll see what me and a friend who knows a little more about this motor can figure out. I'm no motor mechanic nor can i diagnose whats wrong. I'll post something later this evening and let you guys know.

Check to make sure the plug wires are fully seated, can be tricky to get them to click some times. Give each wire a tug, if it slips right off it was not connected properly.

Yep i double checked them and gave them a pretty good tug and then made sure they were seated in there good. Also checked to make sure wire from coil was seated into cap and made sure plug wires were seated in cap as well. More i think about it more confused i get. A 20 min job has now rendered my rig useless.

Try your old wires, could be faulty wires.

That thought crossed my mind. But it ran for a second or two with the new wires. Could they go bad all the sudden? I'm thinking its somewhere in that distributor cap/rotor bug misalligned. I'll most likely put everything back the way it was besides the old spark plugs which were black and looked like a piece of charcoal.

Well worked on it most of the evening. I have spark at the spark plugs. It will run if you pour gas into the carb. When that goes away it wont stay running, the sight bowl on the front of the carb has nothing in it. We pulled the fuel line going into the carb and it squirts out plenty of gas when i turned it over. So there is fuel pressure up to the carb. Just wont flow into it. 196K on this motor, it is a Holley 2 barrel from what my friend tells me. Guess its time for a rebuild? Anyone else have any thoughts?

HAHA, well i got the carb pulled off....along with the 14 dang vacuum lines. The search begins to figure out which ones i need and which ones are smog related and i can plug temporarilly until funds for propane set up come available.

Friendly tip: DO NOT lay your carb on top of your battery, it will weld you throttle linkage to the battery post. Found that one out the hard way. Dang near started a fire.
