Loud engine whine when cold?

I've been noticing this more and more as it gets colder outside.

Gets louder when:

A. Turning the steering wheel
B. Pressing the brakes.

Once the engine is warm, it goes away.

During the summer I noticed a slight sqeakiness before fully warmed up, but I figured it was the accessory belt. I don't know if the two are related.

I have a Flex-a-lite electric fan, original waterpump, original PS pump, original brake booster, timing belt changed last summer (maybe 15K ago?) along with the accessory belts. 18 months on the current plugs, wires, distrib cap/rotor.

Any thoughts?

whats the weather like? petroleum products mmight not freeze over until extreme temps, but they will thicken up if cold and when the systems try to use this thicker stuff, it may be putting extra stress on components to do

It didn't do this any other winter (not that I remember anyway).... It's not the engine itself, but an accessory or 2 I think. The engine itself has Royal Purple in it and runs like a top.

Could the water pump sound like this?

you could try taking all the belts off one morning and see if the noise goes away or not, my bet is that it is you power steering pump or an idler pulley

I was wondering if you found out what it was and if you know of an additive you can put into the Power steering pump that will prevent the super cold start sound, perhaps marvel oil, or some sort of ETHO baised lub?? I know its been a few months for this post, but I have very simmular noises so, thanks for any advice in advance.

I need to try this when I get some time. It seems to be louder when I apply the brakes more than anything. Could it be an issue with the brake booster?

I haven't dug into it since I've not had any ill effects and time is scarce - but it is annoying. I'll get tired of listening to it soon...
