I wonder if something like this can be fabbed up or not to work with the FJ Cruisers spare tire?



I have Slee's Hi Lift mounts on my roof rack now.



But dang, the roof is so darn tall on this rig, much taller than my 4Runner was where I could reach the Hi-Lift with ease.
I need to use a 4' ladder to wash the roof on this new beast.

I am thinking of using the mounts up there instead to put my old shovel up there.
It would be much easier to have the Hi-Lift on the spare tire like in the first photo.

If there is not a commercialy available one now for the spare tire, you make it, I will buy it.

 

How about a pic of your spare tire mount (how the tire mounts to the carrier). Those wheels are still 6 on 5.5 right?

A pic without the center cap on the wheel (if so equipped) while on the carrier would help...

 

Are you wanting to put this on there full time or only for trail use?

I ask because there is a way to do it, that isn't too secure. Wouldn't be good if you were going to leave it on there all the time.

 

Also a pic without the tire on the carrier would be good...

I have an idea that I think will work well...

 

Buy the KayMar HiLift mount and add it to your FJ tire carrier. Don't see why it wouldn't work. The sell it seperate.

I have the ARB catalog in the cab of my jitney here at work, I will grab it before I get off work.

I just can not see hefting that thing up onto the top of my rack.
A shovel, yes.
I can stand on the passenger side rear tire to access something light weight like my fiberglass shovel.

In my younger days hefting a Hi-Lift that high might not be so bad.

Mike is right, something that uses the lug pattern and has a bit of a stand off should clear fine.

I am a pretty big animal, throwing something of that size and almost significant heft that high is not something I enjoy doing.

I am also a proponent of having the jack outside on a bumper so it is easy to get to. On the Ultimate Adventure it took 4 trucks to find a jack that wasn't going to require half the day to get out and use. At that point I am going to lay under the truck and think dirty thoughts.

 

I am thinking something again...

I have seen them mounted to the ARB bumpers up front, I may end up doing that.
Less stress on the rear door hinge, and laying down flat would be less stressful too.

If you have a chore throwing a jack up that high, well heck, I might need a crane.

I could see doing it from the side of the rack using Demellos mounts, but I do not want to fork out $90 for those right now.

But from the side of the rack to the top is totally different.

 

I called up ARB since they handle Kaymar stuff as in the spare tire Hi-Lift carrier, and they said Kaymar has no plans to build one for the FJC.

However...ARB has in the works a rear bumper for the FJ, as they shipped an FJ over to the land down under two weeks back.
I am sure some of you have heard this through the rumor mill before.
Well, the bumper will have a Hi-Lift mount in it, and probably a swing out gate for the tire also.

I am holding out for this new bumper.
It sounds like it is going to be sweet.

 

I had mine on top of the ARB with studs. I really liked it though it was only that way for a couple trips. The bumper lives on with AxleIke, not sure if he has used the studs yet.

I am a big dumb animal some times. 48's are right at the limits of what I care to hump around. With the 60, you have one choice and that is where I am leaving it.

 

There is always a choice, I could tow this behind me to lift it off the roof.
Heck, with it I would not even need the jack

 

I have mine mounted on top of my ARB Prado bumper using wheel studs from a heep and 2" bodylift blocks. Got the idea from zman2day.

I have not used these. I have the jack on the roof, cuz I leave it on. I am getting a 60 so i may switch to the bumper mount then, as it will likely be pretty heavy.

 

Phil, I have confirmed the bolt pattern is 6 on 5.5 for the FJ Crusier.

Hey, Man-A-Fre just got back to me.
They would need an FJ Cruiser to pop on in to their shop, then they can test one of the Kaymar Hi-Lift mounts since there are a few models.

So if anyone here with an FJ Cruiseer can stop by their shop, they can see if the mount will fit with a 17" stock alloy wheel or not.
