Requesting advice on replacing front and rear bumpers
Here's the deal: I just piced up a '94 4Runner, and am planning on driving it as long as it's drivable.
Right now I'd like to start by straightening out the front and rear bumpers. The rear was rearended, and the front was hit by a car that'd been t-boned in an intersection already. There was some suspension damage from the front hit as well, but that's been corrected.
Other than appearance, the harm here is that the driver's side front tire rubs when turning right, and the rear bumper is such that I can't get to the spare tire (which is still original, so this might not matter a whole lot).
Anyway, can you tell from the pictures if this will be as simple as ordering new bumpers and/or mounts and reattaching them (don't care about minor body damage)? My fear is that there's more to this then there appears...

You wont know how bad the damage is until you take the bumpers off and resinpect.
Oddly enough the rear bumper bolts to the body not the frame....
Check E-bay, you will find cheap nonOEM replacments that will do the job.

Yeah, ir's rubbing on the black lower part. My father-in-law suggested that sometimes when you take off the bumper you find it won't go back on. Is there a large risk of this, or is it a fairly straightforward job?

the bumpers *should* go on as easy as it comes off.. its only a couple bolts holding the bumpers on. the rubbing wont cause any damage, but like i said if its bothering you, you can take the lower part off. the turn lights are on the metal bumper not the plastic part. i'll try to get a pic of what it looks like with out one.

YEah, the hitch did save you, a mustan rear ended my 95 at a 35-40mph, and the cars frontend was almost totaled. The only body part that survived on the car was the passenger fender... Good thing i had my ball on, because it would have been worse.(For me) My ball went in about and inch away from his radiator. (Man these are strong trucks)

To me, the front bumper looks like it will be easy to replace. The rear? I would leave the dent like the rest of us and just raise it to where it needs to be. Check out this thread.

I agree. I ended up going with a double tube Smittybuilt rear. With how many I see dented all the time, one would think Toyota would have a deal with Smittybuilt and put them on stock. I really should edit my last post, but I left my dents on my last '90 for several years, until it got totalled.

I agree, I dont wheel enough anymore to just upgrade, but when something needs replacment, well I replace it for wheeling....Kinda why I have a header/hi-flow cat/flowmaster, heavy flywheel and centerforce DF in the garage waiting for me to get home next month....
Its for sure why my truck has an allpro rear bumper on it...dang trees..

I am always under the impression that when something is dented or damaged that it mean " time for an upgrade ", but maybe that's just my understand when I see things. ;o)

I'll take it off and see if simply replacing the brackets will be enough.
