1997 4runner 2wd Automatic to 4wd Manual - some some help
Hello! I'm new to this forum, I've been posting on T4R.org about this for the past 2 weeks or so, and I was told many of you guys over here have done similar swaps as to what I am trying to accomplish. I also thought it'd be a good idea to expand to here anyway for more answers, help, etc.
First of all, no, I am NOT going to sell or trade my vehicle, so please don't even bring it up. Thanks!
Anyway, I plan on attempting to do a 5 speed manual swap and add 4wd to my currently 2wd, automatic '97 4runner. So far, here is the list of parts I have acquired (I will be getting a donor truck, not each part separately) :
R150F Transmission (and T-Case, I have no idea which one though)
Front differential with matching gears to rear
Driveshafts, front and rear
Flywheel, pressure plate,pilot bearing, disc
Shifting assembly (not 100% what this is, is it just the actual shifter handles?)
Clutch Stuff (pedal, master cylinder, hydraulic cable etc.)
R150F 5VZ-FE Bellhousing (little confused on this but I think this is the correct part?)
4x4 Manual Engine ECU (Not sure what the part number is for the one I need)
5VZ Slave Cylinder
4WD Front Spindles and CV Axles
Wire harness to ECU.
VSV, canister, check valve, hoses, manifold for ADD.
LOTS OF TIME
(copied from T4R.org)
The only thing that is currently holding me back is the wiring... I really would like to avoid replacing the WHOLE harness with a manual one, but if I really have to then I will. Anyway, QUESTIONS.
What would be my best bet as far as wiring goes? Currently I'm planning on re-pinning my current harness so it would work with the manual ECU, but I'm not sure if there are any 4wd wires that I would be missing. Are there?
Are there any extra wires that plug into things such as the front diff?
Would I only need to replace the engine harness, the interior (I think it's called this?) harness, or would I have to do both?
I plan on getting this done by the end of summer, but we'll see.. Thank you! All help is appreciated.
